Job Description:
The School of Interdisciplinary Health and Science at the University of Saint Joseph is seeking candidates for a full-time, 9-month tenure-track, Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Public Health and Health Science. The Public Health Program and the Health Science Program are located within the Nutrition and Public Health Department. The Department offers undergraduate programs in nutrition and dietetics, Public Health, exercise science and Health Science along with a post-graduate accredited dietetic internship, an online Master's degree in Nutrition, and an online Master of Public Health. The Department also offers graduate certificates in health coaching, Public Health and sports nutrition and an undergraduate certificate in sports nutrition.
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching coursework primarily in the Health Science and Public Health programs and student advisement beginning in spring 2024 or fall 2024. The faculty member will work closely with the Physician Assistant Studies Program and the Doctor of Pharmacy Program as there are Health Science tracks that accepts freshmen for direct entry into these programs.
We seek a creative, innovative, and collaborative faculty member with a commitment to undergraduate student learning and success and diversity, equity, and inclusion. Qualified applicants will demonstrate strong teaching skills; the ability to engage collaboratively with the department and community colleagues; experience in developing relationships and networks with culturally diverse communities; and the ability to forge partnerships with a variety of organizations and the ability to mentor and develop exercise and Health Science students.
Responsibilities as a USJ Assistant Professor comprise active participation in department, school, and university activities and committees. In accordance with the University's mission, faculty members are also responsible for advancing development in pedagogy, scholarship, mentoring student research, and service to the university and affiliated communities.
Requirements:
Education & Experience
- Candidates must hold a doctoral degree and have a degree in Health Science, Public Health, or a related discipline. Preferred candidates must have a record of excellent teaching experience and the ability to teach courses in multiple aspects of health such as:
- health promotion
- Public Health
- chronic diseases and disabilities
- legal and ethical issues in healthcare
- leadership in health care
- Cultural competency to work with diverse student and/or employee population
- Commitment to the mission of the University of Saint Joseph
- Physical ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
A record of scholarly work and the ability to engage an increasingly diverse student body in research, and in health promotion. The ideal candidate will have experience working in some aspect of the health field, and experience in student advisement. A candidate who is ABD will be considered.
