Job description

This position is located in the Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection (DLCP), Office of the Director, Strategic Communications Division. The Strategic Communications Division supports DLCP in advancing the District of Columbia's strategic plan and contributing to the improvement of the quality of life for all residents of our nation's capital by working with D.C. Government agencies and community-based organizations to fulfill the mandate of DLCP.

Duties and Responsibilities

Incumbent develops communication plans including such factors as specific topics or aspects to emphasize, the most effective media to utilize in communicating with target audiences, etc. Advises management on the possible public and media reactions to agency actions, as well as the information needs of the general public and various specialized groups. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with print and broadcast media representatives in disseminating information or answering inquiries about the agency's operations or activities. Plans and designs print and online material for public events, social media, workshops, and special projects, assigned Communications staff and Agency Director.

Identifies, summarizes, and analyzes public comments submitted to the office. Advises and assists the supervisor with implementing system(s) to track and address pertinent complaints, concerns and/or issues raised. Develops communications strategies with short-term and long-term goals and plans for achieving such goals. Evaluates the impact and effectiveness of communication plans and advise management if efforts should be discontinued, emphasis changed, or coverage area expanded or otherwise modified. Assists agency online editor, content editor and technology communications manager to develop and maintain agency websites.

Qualifications and Education

Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the individual with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. To be creditable, the incumbent must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression.

The work is primarily sedentary. The work is primarily performed in the normal office setting.

Tour of Duty: Monday- Friday 8:15AM- 4:45PM

Pay Plan, Series and Grade: CS-1035-12

Promotion Potential: No known promotion potential.

Collective Bargaining Unit (Union): This position is not covered under a collective bargaining unit.

Position Designation: The incumbent of this position will be subject to enhanced suitability screening pursuant to Chapter 4 of DC Personnel Regulations, Suitability – Security Sensitive.
