Where You’ll Work
This position is based in our Washington, DC office. We leverage a hybrid working model working three days in the office, two days optional remote work.
What You’ll Do
The Public Affairs Specialist is a key member of CHA’s Public Affairs team, supporting Public Policy, Federal Affairs and External Affairs. Proactively monitors federal regulatory activities, state policy trends, and congressional activities. This position supports and contributes to the development of policy materials and initiatives and assists with research and analysis to support CHA Public Affairs efforts, including congressional advocacy. This position will also provide support for communications, focused on both traditional and digital media and other external affairs activities including awareness and brand positioning campaigns.
- Implements Public Affairs strategies and programs in support of CHA’s work to improve federal health programs for children, following organizational strategic plans, goals, and objectives.
- Supports the enhancement of federal advocacy initiatives through comprehensive research, analysis, and information dissemination. Focuses on both congressional and administrative actions by addressing crucial issues such as Medicaid, pediatric workforce, private insurance coverage, 340B drug discount program, delivery system reform, mental health, etc.
- Provide ongoing support for CHA’s efforts on specific regulatory and congressional issues.
- Monitor newly published regulations, policy guidance, and other administrative actions, identifying issues that could impact children’s hospitals.
- Supports the External Affairs team by drafting content for both web and social media, newsletters, and Public Affairs communications.
Experience and Skills:
What You’ll Bring to CHA
- Bachelor’s degree in political science, public or health policy, or a related field.
- 3 years of professional experience in policy or federal affairs; previous work at federal, state, or associations is desirable.
- Strong understanding of the legislative and regulatory process, as well as knowledge of key policy issues related to CHA’s mission and priorities.
- Demonstrated interest in health policy issues that affect children and children’s hospitals.
- Strong analytical, organizational, research, and writing skills.
- Excellent communication skills, particularly related to communication of complex policy to lay audiences, including writing for multiple platforms and audiences.
