The Opportunity


Cornell University is looking for a dynamic and skilled Project Manager to join our Staff and Labor Relations team. Under the general direction of the Senior Director of Staff and Labor Relations (SLR) as well as other campus partners, such as University leadership, the Graduate School, the colleges and SLR team members, this pivotal role involves coordinating and managing the intricate systems and content pivotal for labor negotiations and contract implementation with our graduate student union of over 3000 members, represented by the United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America (UE).


Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Management and Development: You will be at the helm of providing exceptional project management for the design, development, and implementation of systems crucial for the negotiation, implementation, and administration of the UE collective bargaining agreement. Your role will include everything from initial discovery and analysis to stakeholder management, documentation, and issue resolution.
  • Relationship Management, Communication, and Reporting: As a central figure, you will develop and maintain effective communication protocols, serve as the primary contact for projects, and ensure seamless coordination with various university committees and partners.
  • Training Development: Collaborate with campus partners to devise and implement training programs for the effective rollout of new collective bargaining agreements.

This role is a full-time term role for 18 months with the potential to extend to 24 months.

What We Need

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 3-5 years of relevant experience in project management, or an equivalent combination of education and related professional experience.
  • Strong conceptual and analytical skills
  • Proven ability to assess organizational gaps and to affect organizational change or improvement in collaboration with others.
  • Demonstrated good judgment and decision-making.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written and presentation skills.
  • Able to set up and maintain high standards in all output (e.g. reports, graphics, project plans.).
  • Advanced computer skills including Word, Excel and PowerPoint and project management software, e.g., Monday.com.
  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
  • Experience incorporating the perspectives of multiple communities, including communities of color.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

  • This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. Employees typically perform this role remotely 3 days per week and on-campus 2 days per week. The university reserves the right to modify, suspend, revoke, or terminate the hybrid work arrangement at any time.
