The West Regional Native American Language Center at the University of Arizona's American Indian Language Development Institute (AILDI), with partner institutions in Tohono O'odham Community College, San Carlos Apache College, and Dine College seeks a Project Manager. The Center's purpose is to: (1) provide support and advocacy for the inclusion of Native American languages in local, state and regional educational systems; (2) provide training and technical assistance in implementing evidence-based pedagogical strategies, assessments, qualifications and processes for Native American language medium instruction; (3) provide technical assistance to Native American Language Programs seeking other Federal resources; and (4) provide consultation and support for Tribal language programs in the region in implementing and sustaining effective curriculum and other language work.

The person in this position will be the primary support staff for the Language Center and for the director of the Language Center. The Project Manager assists with plans; develops, coordinates, and implements outreach educational and community programs for external audiences; and manages and coordinates all aspects of the Language Center's activities both on campus and off. The position manages the cross-disciplinary mission of a training and language service center that will serve the west regional area including Arizona, California, Nevada, and Utah. Grant funded for 5 years.

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

Manages the Center's Activities

  • Convene monthly planning and evaluation meetings with director and instructors
  • Identify instructors and courses and coordinate with other units for course management 
  • Coordinate with human resources to hire instructors and workshop facilitators
  • Plan and develop marketing and promotion materials
  • Plan, develop, and coordinate workshops
  • Act as point of contact for students and instructors
  • Oversee logistics related to participant and instructor housing options
  • Plan and oversee summer instructor meetings
  • Identify and coordinate guest speakers, films, and events to augment regular workshop schedule
  • Compile evaluations and monitor student and other databases
  • Manage the daily activities of the center including budget

Develop, Plan and coordinate off-site and on-site non-credit workshops for Native American communities

  • Act as point of contact for Native community (off-site)
  • Network and facilitate communication with leaders and community to develop workshop content, schedule, evaluation and materials
  • Coordinate and schedule on-site visits/zoom meetings for director to determine logistics 
  • Support workshop leader by serving as point of contact (content, logistics, community interface)
  • Plan content in consultation with director
  • Supervise and coordinate local logistics (location, instructor materials, caterers)
  • Serve as point of contact for workshop leader
  • Plan, develop, market and promote workshop
  • Develop participant application

Initiate, develop, coordinate, and maintain collaborations related to Native American language and culture revitalization work including those with partner tribal college institutions and other partner sites

  • Coordinate partner requests to collaborate on symposia, conferences, workshop development, language education projects from in-state and out of state organizations and tribal communities
  • Establish, cultivate, and maintain relationships with tribal communities
  • Implement current trends from research as related to language revitalization, language education, cultural development

Manage The West Regional Native American Language Center

  • Oversee daily work activity of staff
  • Manage project budgets
  • Work in collaboration with fiscal officer to review and monitor monthly reports
  • Coordinate supplies,equipment purchases and travel
  • Collaborate and participate in regular meetings of the Center and AILDI meetings

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of federal grants management
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5 years of project management experience, including budget management
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with Native American communities
  • Experience with word processing, spreadsheet, and database software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Experience with UA policies and systems including various sections of UAccess and Room and Course Scheduling
