Universal Renewables is Hiring a Project Manager Near Washington, DC
Universal Renewables, and sister company Universal Aluminum Products, acts as a manufacturer, distributor, and developer of custom rooftop canopies for commercial flat roofs. Our clientele consists of other solar EPCs, developers, and building owners that have a need for our rooftop canopies. As we continue to expand our presence in the solar industry, we are seeking a dedicated Project Manager to join our team. The Universal Companies offer a niche solution to a growing industry that needs it.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
• The Project Manager will oversee all members of the production team including the Project Managers, O&M technicians, warehouse manager, warehouse assistant, inspectors, etc.
• Supports ongoing training and education efforts for all Project Managers, Inspectors- trade specific, professional development specific, OSHA, Etc.
• Responsible for recruiting, negotiating, and developing a working relationship sub-contractor in trades.
• 80% office work, 20% in field – varies on project specific requirements.
Job Description:
• Oversees the day-to-day production operations supporting commercial, and industrial solar rooftop canopy projects.
• Frequently monitors quality control and finds way to best meet the needs of each contract.
• Ensures all jobs are completed on time, within the approved budget, and with a high level of quality.
• Acts as main point of contact for clients regarding scheduling, updates, processes, and other project activities.
• Adjusts schedules to ensure timely delivery.
• Assume a proactive approach with jobs that fall lower than originally proposed budget or jobs that fall under margin.
• Works collaboratively with the Project Developer and General Manager regarding jobs with financial implications, owns the findings, and develops solutions to support problem-solving.
• Keeps a close track of vendor pricing.
• Develops detailed description of jobs and materials necessary to complete projects.
• Responsible for overseeing the daily schedule of field staff and technicians to support existing and new jobs/projects.
• Checks all costs to determine whether the job can be performed to a satisfactory conclusion at the specified profit.
• Reviews and assesses all commercial and industrial jobs to proactively identify risks and opportunities to support the Production Department.
• Implements, develops, and monitors safety programs.
• Problem solves when projects do not go as planned and addresses challenges to avoid disruption in service, unforeseen financial implications.
• Proactively interviews sub-contractors (roofers, electricians, installers) to provide a variety of reputable options for all trades.
• Implements new initiatives to help benefit overall team goals and company goals.
• Incentivizes Project Managers and subs for hitting goals.
• Organizes workflow to meet specifications and time sensitive deadlines.
• Monitors the overall Revenue and Growth of the Production Department.
• Evaluates Close out, Project Completion, and Success Rates to support turnaround time on all jobs.
• Engages with various departments, team leaders, and staff to support strong interdepartmental communications.
• Other duties as deemed necessary.
What you’ll need
• 3 years of experience in the construction field, preferably solar, construction, or roofing.
• Strong leadership skills.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• Superior communication and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of multiple aspects of solar and construction (technology, equipment, methods, engineering methods and drawings, cost control and scheduling).
• A valid, non-restrictive driver’s license.
• Bilingual in Spanish & English preferred, not required.
