Job Description

McKinley’s Project Managers are integral to the firm’s ability to deliver exceptional value to its clients and support the McKinley team to do its best work. Across both internal and external projects, McKinley upholds strong project management practices that balance consistency and quality with creativity and innovation. Our Project Managers and consultants are mutually supportive; both bring unique, critical skill sets and perspectives to our work.

The Associate Project Manager is a key partner to and team member on our client delivery teams staffed on some of McKinley’s most established project types, like strategic planning and survey research. This role has visibility and access into a diversity of challenges and stakeholders across the association landscape, ensuring every day is dynamic and varied. The Associate Project Manager provides the highest level of service to McKinley’s association and non-profit clients, and their volunteers. With guidance from the project lead and project team, the Associate Project Manager is involved with project planning, execution, monitoring, and closure, and helps maintain consistency, collaboration, transparency, coordination, and organization throughout the project.

The ideal candidate has skills in project management and communication, both with external clients and internal teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Management (90%)

  • Develop and maintain project workplans, in partnership with the project team, to support on-time and on-scope delivery of the project and to identify potential roadblocks for team discussion
  • Draft internal and client meeting agendas, in alignment with project phases, upcoming milestones, and deliverables
  • Communicate proactively with internal and client teams about project updates, upcoming action items and meetings, and deliverable development to ensure there is shared understanding and transparency across all team members
  • Lead scheduling efforts, including client meetings, internal check-ins, research interviews, etc.
  • Employ existing tools and processes to keep project artifacts well organized, easily accessible, and easily understood by all project team members
  • Support the project lead in monitoring project budget, scope, and timeline
  • Upon project completion, efficiently closeout each project in accordance with established closeout process

Knowledge Management (10%)

  • Continually identify ways to innovate delivery methods and formats, and creatively address project needs, especially related to efficiencies in project management and delivery processes
  • Support McKinley knowledge sharing and continuous process improvement efforts, including maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs) and task list templates

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • At least two years of communications or project management, or two years of related work experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail in managing project timelines, action items and follow-up
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), Google Suite (Drive, Calendar), and Dropbox
  • Experience with project management tools and software, including tools like Teamwork, Google calendar, Calendly, etc., preferred
  • Comfortable pivoting between multiple online platforms for both communication and tracking of project management efforts 
  • Experience working with associations, preferred
  • Ability to manage and follow-up on multiple projects needs in a fast-paced environment often with tight deadlines

Additional Information

EMPLOYEE VALUE AND COMPENSATION

  • Starting pay of $61,000 annually, salary commensurate with experience.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • McKinley Advisors is a fast-paced, high-energy firm with a highly motivated staff. This job will experience high work demands under tight timelines requiring a flexible and adaptable approach to daily priorities. This position is sometimes sedentary and there will be long periods in front of the computer, possibly standing or sitting for long periods.
  • McKinley’s headquarters office is located in Washington D.C. We also have a core team based in Chicago, with additional colleagues working throughout the U.S. This hybrid position can be performed at home, though it will require some in-office work for client, team and firm-wide meetings.
  • For business tax and payroll purposes, McKinley is only able to support employees working from the following states: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. All applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.
