The Role
Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.
This position is for a senior PROJECT ENGINEER in the Undersea Systems group within the Undersea Warfare department. The Undersea Systems group is responsible for design and development of concepts to integrate advanced systems and payloads onto submarines and other platforms. The undersea warfare department manages and provides support across multiple contracts ranging from R&D demonstrations programs to new vehicle / submarine design efforts.
This position will be responsible for leading cross discipline teams of engineers and designers to execute tasking as assigned by the program manager. This position will interface with customers and partners both internal and external to HII and will be responsible for day-to-day project management and engineering activities such as working with Subject Matter Expert (SME) leads to develop and execute technical project plans, estimating schedules and costs, tracking progress, coordinating resolution of technical issues, and identifying risks and concerns to the program manager.
Must Have
Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience;
Master’s Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience;
Ph.D. and 4 years of experience.

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
Nice to Have
Familiar with submarines and undersea systems (such as UUVs) with experience in leading design and engineering activities.
Current final SECRET clearance preferred.
