Leads the development and implementation of the Buffalo TIES (Togetherness, Inclusion & Empowerment Strategies), a new project aimed at empowering vulnerable young adults experiencing disabilities and other life challenges to lead independent, empowered and connected lives in the community; oversees day-to-day Buffalo TIES project planning and implementation; delivers and coordinates targeted outreach activities that engage prospective employment/nonprofit partners in exploring mutually beneficial collaborations; cultivates and maintains substantive partnerships with East Buffalo employers, businesses and community-based organizations that enrich our agency’s continuum of Community-Based Services.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Recruit businesses, schools, and community-based organizations (CBOs) whose missions and purposes align with the employment and community inclusion goals of people we serve.
2. Conduct outreach events that concretely illustrate the value of engaging the people we serve in employment and volunteer opportunities.
3. Consult with employers, schools and CBOs to structure and, when appropriate, formalize mutually beneficial partnerships.
4. In collaboration with local employers, develop short-term work experiences to help acclimate young adults with disabilities to careers of interest.
5. In collaboration with local educators and employers, adapt existing training/vocational education programming to better suit the strengths and support needs of young adults with disabilities.
6. In collaboration with community-rooted nonprofits, cultivate integrated volunteer opportunities that allow individuals with disabilities to better their neighborhoods while practicing essential socialization/independent living skills.
7. As appropriate, arrange for financial literacy and financial planning classes to aid young adults with disabilities in sustaining desired outcomes for employment, independent living and self-sufficiency.
8. Develop formal partnerships with employers and CBOs to establish long-term employment/volunteerism “pipelines” for Buffalo/Erie County residents with disabilities.
9. Assist employers in designing new positions and internships that could fulfill crucial business functions while advancing the employment goals of the people we serve.
10. Research the Buffalo/Western NY job market to isolate new employers and to connect the people we serve to high growth/high demand industries that might be of interest.
11. Coordinates and arranges for additional workshops, activities and time-limited events that help those we serve to advance goals for self-sufficiency, job readiness, community inclusion and lifelong wellness.
12. Connects with local workforce development stakeholders to explore ways to expand our Community-Based Services and to discover strategies for engaging employers in service delivery.
13. Works closely with Community-Based Services leadership in isolating employment support needs
14. Collects and organizes output and outcome data related to project activities for funder and internal progress reports.
15. Captures success stories relating to project activities to be shared with project funders and other project/agency stakeholders.
16. In advancing project outcomes, realizes the key deliverables of the Buffalo TIES project, which include:
a. Provide 4-6 outreach events per year to help educate the local business community on the benefits of involving individuals with disabilities in their organizations.
b. Directly assist 6-8 employers/CBOs in adapting existing employee/volunteer engagement practices to better ensure accessibility for individuals with disabilities.
c. Directly engage 6-8 employers/year in crafting work experiences to introduce and acclimate young adults with disabilities to in-demand career paths.
d. Directly engage 4-6 CBOs in cultivating meaningful volunteer/service-learning opportunities to benefit the East Buffalo community while teaching essential daily living skills to individuals with disabilities; and
e. As needed, arrange for 6-8 accessible financial literacy and financial planning classes/workshops to promote self-sufficiency outcomes among young adults with disabilities.
17. In collaboration with our Community-Base Services staff, pursues and accomplishes the primary outcomes of the Buffalo TIES project, which include:
a. Enable 200 individuals with disabilities per year to acquire employability and socialization skills that promote community inclusion.
b. Assist 150 individuals with disabilities per year in achieving personal goals for empowerment and community inclusion through community-based learning experiences; and
c. Empower 50 individuals with disabilities per year to secure long-term employment/volunteer opportunities in the community.
18. Ensure project expenses are tracked and documented—including expenses relating to compensating project partners.
1. Education and Experience:
a. Bachelor's degree in Human & Social Services, Education, Business, Public Administration or a related field;
b. At least 5 years of relevant experience in conducting outreach to the business community, in building and coordinating collaborative partnerships and/or in engaging and mobilizing stakeholders to advance community-based projects and initiatives.
c. Experience in assisting individuals with disabilities or in delivering job placement and preparedness services preferred.
2. Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
a. Proven ability in liaising between diverse groups of stakeholders and in forming mutually beneficial partnerships.
b. Strong familiarity with local business, employment and nonprofit communities.
c. Aptitude for crafting connections and generating leads with local business and nonprofits.
d. Ability to imagine, plan and implement outreach events.
3. Certifications – Must be or become
a. SCIP – Philosophy
b. CPR/First Aid certified.
4. Physical and Mental Requirements:
a. Exercising independent judgment, concentrating, thinking, communicating, interacting with others, managing multiple tasks and coping with stressful situations and deadlines.
b. Staying awake and alert while on duty.
c. Ability to perform sedentary physical activity of an administrative nature.
d. Seeing, hearing, walking, sitting, standing, driving, stooping, bending, carrying, stretching, and climbing stairs as well as the ability to perform all required movements required by the relevant SCIP-R curriculum.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. Will primarily work in office and classroom environments.
2. Will usually work during normal business hours; may need to work outside normal business hours for meetings or functions in limited circumstances.
3. Local travel required approximately 30% of the time.
4. Performs some work at other locations as needed.
