Nonviolent Peaceforce (NP) is a dynamic, international non-governmental organization. We work with people affected by violent conflicts to enhance their security and dignity through Unarmed Civilian Protection (UCP). We work to reduce violence, protect civilians in countries affected by violent conflict and its aftermath, and help transform the world's response to conflict situations.


Overview:

NP is initiating a project in San Diego CA through a federal violence reduction grant. The candidate for this position must be living in the San Diego area and have knowledge of other violence prevention initiatives in the region.

Job Summary:

Nonviolent Peaceforce is seeking a program manager to provide leadership and project management to its newest program in San Diego, CA. The program manager will be responsible for development, implementation, evaluation and personnel management of programming designed to increase safety of local residents and civilians using unarmed and community-based approaches. This entails developing strong relationships with community leaders and organizers committed to reimaging public safety that does not use force or threat of force. The position is part of the US Program team and must work collaboratively with Development, Communications, International Programs and Advocacy.

Key Responsibilities and Responsibilities:


  • Oversee the implementation and day-to-day implementation ofprograms in the San Diego area, ensuring alignment with the organization's goals andobjectives.
  • Manage at least one staff person
  • Report directly to the Director of Mutual Protection for overall strategic and organizational alignment.
  • Serve as the primary relationship holder with local community organizations, government bodies, and other key stakeholders to ensure upholding NP's principles on the primacy of local actors and nonpartisanship.
  • Act as the main point of contact and primary relationship holder for any external partnerships, including NGOs and other community-based organizations.
  • Evaluateprogrameffectiveness using KPIs and metrics set forth by the DOJ grant, making data-driven recommendations forprogramimprovements.
  • SupportDoMPwithbudgets and resourcesallocatedfor San Diegoprogram, ensuringoptimaluse.
  • Facilitate communication between the San Diego/NYCteam and NPUS, ensuring consistent and aligned messaging andobjectives
  • Engage with all stakeholders to a conflict (local community leaders, government authorities, police, army, non-state armed groups, and nonprofit organizations) to identify ongoing and potential conflicts that may have the potential to result in violence.
  • Assist the Director of Mutual Protection in project implementation through a keen understanding of the community conflicts and concerns.

Qualifications:

  • Five years' work experience with a non-profit, civil society organization or community-based organization or group, in a management capacity.
  • Strong commitment to the safety and security of civilians, human rights and racial justice and mission of the organization.
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of the political and social dynamics in the
  • A demonstrated background in grassroots organizing, training facilitation and building effective Preferred areas of expertise around nonviolent direct action, mutual aid and solidarity-based organizing.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of peacekeeping and unarmed civilian protection.
  • Experience working in an NGO or similar organisation.

Working Conditions:

  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and printer.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Some evenings and weekends may be required.
  • Some travel may be required.
