THE OPPORTUNITY
Located in the heart of San Francisco, the Asian Art Museum is home to one of the world's finest collections of Asian art, boasting more than 18,000 inspiring artworks ranging from ancient jades and ceramics to contemporary video installations. Dynamic special exhibitions, cultural celebrations, and public programs for all ages provide rich art experiences that unlock the past and spark questions about the future.

The Audio-Visual (AV) Coordinator will play a vital role in supporting the audiovisual needs of the museum. Under general direction of the head of Audio Visual, this position assists in coordinating various aspects related to audiovisual support, such as scheduling events, providing lead support for events, organizing the delivery, and return of equipment, maintaining inventory, and providing routine maintenance to audio visual equipment. This role provides lead direction and technical support to AV support staff.
The position regularly engages with staff, vendors, visitors, volunteers, members, and colleagues in a personable and respectful manner.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Coordinates and supports the needs of a variety of museum productions (special presentations, activities, events, etc.).
  • Oversees day to day support of AV operations.
  • Monitors events to ensure proper implementation of audio-visual equipment.
  • Moves, sets up, takes down, operates, and adjusts audiovisual equipment, including microphones, portable sound systems, light boards and/or additional lighting as needed, video cameras, and projectors; installs gels; replaces bulbs; pulls and installs additional cable as necessary.
  • Ensures the safety of staff, visitors, and others in all audiovisual installations; works closely with event staff, engineering, security, and outside contractors to ensure compliance with established event guidelines and proper care and preservation of the collections and appropriate use of the facility.
  • Organizes and maintains accurate files regarding the schedule, release, and return of equipment.
  • Compiles and maintains accurate inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • Keeps equipment in good working order. Repairs when possible and orders new equipment as needed.
  • Leads, schedules, and coordinates AV needs and activities of AV support staff and other personnel during productions as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma and three (3) years of related work experience. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid California driver's license is required.
  • Knowledge of current audiovisual technology including: a wide range of audiovisual equipment, sound and lighting devices and techniques; acoustics; the installation, operation, and set up of all regularly used audiovisual equipment.
  • Ability to safely and securely follow best industry practices and museum procedures.
  • Ability to safely and securely handle the storage of audiovisual equipment.
  • Demonstrated administrative, organizational, and scheduling skills; extremely flexible, accurate, and detail oriented.
  • Ability to manage and independently prioritize multiple tasks while ensuring timely, high-quality outcomes.
  • Solid computer skills including word processing and spreadsheet proficiency; familiarity with calendaring and/or scheduling software preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to operate, maintain, and make minor repairs on a broad variety of audiovisual equipment.
  • Ability to delegate, supervise, train, and evaluate other technical personnel.
  • Ability to work irregular schedules, including nights, weekends and holidays, based upon audiovisual needs of museum.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Standard museum, event, and office environment.
  • Computer, tablet, audiovisual equipment, and phone use.

COMPENSATION
The Asian Art Museum is committed to practicing salary transparency. The hourly range for this position is $31.7000 - $38.0725/hr. This FLSA non-exempt, part-time (24 hours per week) opportunity includes a generous benefits package, including but not limited to:
• Fully covered medical, dental and vision insurance for employee
• 12 paid holidays (2023)
• 15 days of vacation starting
• 12 days of sick leave
• Group retirement plan starting after one year of employment
This position is represented by Local 1021, Service Employees International Union. New hires typically start at the beginning of the wage range.
