The mission of the Georgia Student Finance Commission is to promote and increase access to education beyond high school for Georgians. To achieve this mission the commission administers state and lottery-funded student financial aid programs including the HOPE Scholarship, HOPE Grant, and Student Access Loan Program and provides college planning and other educational services to more than 2 million Georgians through GAfutures.org. The commission seeks to improve its own operations and inform policymakers and other stakeholders through analysis, interpretation and publication of information using the extensive data collected in support of its programs.

SUMMARY
GSFC’s Program Administrative Office is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Program Specialist. This position is located at GSFC’s Tucker, GA Office with an option for some remote work. The position is responsible for performing high level specialized tasks related to student eligibility and program regulations. The position is responsible for determining student eligibility for state aid program eligibility requirements. The position provides support and technical assistance to students, high schools, and postsecondary institutions with websites, electronic procedures, and accounts for state aid programs. Assist the Program Manager with troubleshooting eligibility issues, recommendations for product enhancements, and testing implementation of enhancements to the database system or websites. Assist with the writing and development of the program regulations.
DESCRIPTION:
- Responsible for keeping abreast of State Program Regulations and Procedures.
- Evaluate and process routine and non-routine record requests, perform data corrections as prescribed.
- Handle processing and eligibility determination of the federal Selective Service registration requirements for state aid programs.
- Review and make written decisions on cases of appeals and exceptions related to state financial aid eligibility requirements.
- Assist students, parents, high school and postsecondary institutions with the Dual Enrollment funding application process.
- Respond to inquiries regarding state financial aid forms, records, procedures, and regulations.
- Review documents and applications for accuracy and verify information with supporting documentation.
- Provides customers with information regarding program procedures and eligibility requirements. Responding promptly and courteously to customer inquiries, resolving problems within given authority, and conducting a variety of routine daily tasks as needed.
- Perform manual evaluations of transcripts for student eligibility of specific state scholarship, grant, and/or loan programs.
- Provide a high level of customer service in responses to student inquiries by email or phone.
- Provide a high level of customer service in responses to postsecondary institution inquiries by email or phone.
- Develops and maintains term and annual records and reports pertaining to the programs and operations. Collect and review and verify information used to set procedures and regulations. Assists with testing of system enhancements and new system features.
- Act as a subject matter expert for area of responsibility.
- Possess strong written and verbal communication skills. Possess intermediate or higher skills with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The following standards express the background of education and experience as evidence of an applicant’s ability to qualify for this position. Any combination of education and experience, if evaluated as equivalent, may qualify an applicant for this specific position.
- Bachelor’s degree in business or related field from an accredited college or university required AND at least one (1) year of experience related to state of Georgia financial aid programs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in business or related field from an accredited college or university AND two years or more of experience related to state of Georgia financial aid programs.
