Summary
Global Kids (GK) educates, inspires, and mobilizes youth to become global citizens who are positively engaged in the world and are prepared for their future. Global Kids is seeking highly motivated part-time Program Specialist to join our DC team. The Program Specialist will play a key role in developing and implementing our global education and youth development programs. We are seeking part-time staff with immediate availability who can commit to working 21-25 hrs/week, typically 12pm-6pm. Current opportunities for this position is available to work in-person at multiple GK-DC's program sites throughout DCPS High Schools and community partnerships.

Responsibilities:
Program Development and Implementation:

  • Facilitate interactive, experiential workshops and activities that are aligned with GK's key 4 pillars (global education, academic success, college and career prep, and social emotional wellness).
  • Collaborate with GK staff, school-based teacher, and youth to generate new program ideas focusing on global/local issues and meeting the goals of contracted initiatives.
  • Serve as a positive, encouraging & affirming mentor for GK youth.

Event and Project Management:
  • Together with the GK school-based teacher, implement student outreach, recruitment, and retention strategies throughout the year.
  • Help support partner school's goals and functions.
  • Support positive relationships with multiple stakeholders such as students, families, school personnel, policymakers, and other community members.
  • Support other staff and students to implement the annual Global Kids Youth Conference, action projects and other special opportunities.
  • Occasional evenings, weekends, and overnights with long-distance travel required for events and trips (college trips, student leadership retreats)

Administrative Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a site point of contact for youth and families in collaboration with teacher onsite and GK-DC senior team.
  • Collect, input, and review attendance, enrollment, evaluation, and other data related to projects and student progress.
  • Maintain necessary documentation/case files, as well as program data entry and records.
  • Work with school personnel on logistics for program implementation (e.g., space, security needs, permits, trip forms/permission slips).
  • Complete administrative tasks related to maintaining assigned GK equipment, fiscal procedures (fund requests and expense reports), and other assigned tasks.

Qualifications:
  • Some college in a related field or five years of relevant professional experience.
  • Strong understanding of a wide array of DC social service resources for youth and families.
  • Experience using interactive experiential learning strategies, counseling, conflict resolution skills, and youth development/leadership strategies with middle school and/or high school-age youth.
  • Experience and enthusiasm for designing and leading educational workshops that build on each other.
  • Commitment to and understanding of working in culturally diverse settings and using antiracist pedagogical practices.
  • Strong work ethic, initiative, creativity, willingness to learn, and ability to manage multiple tasks independently.
  • Strong communication, writing, administrative, organizational, and technology skills (Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, Zoom).
  • International experience is a plus.
  • Fluency in other languages is a plus.

Salary/Benefits: This part-time position serves our school year program (typically 21-25 hrs/week, typically 12-6pm at an hourly rate ($21-$22) commensurate with experience. Program Assistants must be able to work in person with our youth. GK also offers generous paid vacation time off, personal days, and sick time. GK staff can also access retail discounts through our Professional Employer Organization (PEO).
