What You'll Do

The Center for Academic Innovation at the University of Michigan is seeking a qualified Program Manager Senior to ensure the successful development, launch, and operation of Online and Hybrid Degree Programs. Reporting to the Program Management Lead, the Program Manager Senior collaborates with academic unit administrators, faculty, course design teams, and external platform partners to help develop Michigan's online degree and hybrid programs.

About the Program Management Team

The Program Management team partners with academic units and faculty to develop degree programs and pathways to credit that meet the needs of learners where they are, regardless of where they find themselves in their life, career, or in the world. Support units from program conceptualization through launch, we help units analyze what support they need to sustain online and hybrid programs that support lifelong learners at U-M and beyond.

Responsibilities*

  • Assist academic units in the development and launch of new online programs by serving as convener and liaison for partners, including teams of faculty, Center for Academic Innovation (CAI) staff, administrators from academic units, and central administrative unit staff.
  • Coordinate with colleagues to create resources and procedures for academic units and faculty to provide guidance and aid in the creation of online and hybrid degree programs, course materials and program launch activities.
  • Work with team members to advise administrative and student support staff in academic units on models and practices for supporting students in online and hybrid programs.
  • Develop plans and timelines for program development and maintain communication processes to disseminate program management updates to relevant partner groups, including academic unit leadership, CAI leadership, and program development team
  • Work with marketing, enrollment, and admissions partners to establish strategies and plans to set and reach participation and enrollment targets.
  • Participate in conversations and communities on campus around digital learning, instructional design, project management and other topics related to carrying out the mission of the Center for Academic Innovation, assisting with conversations involving the Online Degree communities of practice.
  • Provide guidance and develop best practices and templates for developing capacity within academic units to deliver high-quality online and hybrid programs.
  • Be a liaison to external platform partners to disseminate program management updates.
  • Work with copyright personnel, accessibility experts, design teams, faculty, and third-party vendors to ensure that the digital content and the development of course materials complies with program and Center for Academic Innovation policies.
  • Work with the program management team to identify process improvements for management of online and hybrid degree programs.
  • Develop guidelines for evaluating the effectiveness of current models for online and hybrid program development, create recommendations to improve the process, and assist efforts to document and share this model across campus to inform future initiatives.
  • Implement financial modeling strategies that create pathways to financial sustainability for online programs
  • Provide leadership for scoped projects related to the mobilization, development, and launch phases of online program management, including efforts related to market feasibility studies and integration of proctoring services

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree and 5 or more years of related experience (educational technology, instructional design, learning science, information science) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Work with individuals and groups at all levels within the University and ability to manage collaborative academic partnerships.
  • Experience working with diverse institutional partners to develop and carry out operational processes for launching online and hybrid programs.
  • Demonstrated experience working with faculty in a higher education setting to create and disseminate digital educational content.
  • Demonstrated experience translating organizational strategy into operations and implementation.
  • Knowledge of compliance and regulatory considerations related to the delivery of distance education.
  • Experience working with student support staff to develop services to support students in online and hybrid programs.
  • Align technology solutions with instructional needs, current educational and technological trends, and campus -wide goal/priorities and infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of trends in technology, innovation, and higher education. Familiarity with:
    • Massively Open Online Courses (MOOCs), Open Educational Resources (OER), Learning Management Systems (LMS) like edX, Coursera, Canvas, and other educational platforms.
  • Enthusiasm for technology-enhanced learning in the context of a public research university.
  • Work well in a multicultural and collaborative environment.
  • Experience working with curricular design teams to develop distance education offerings.
  • Knowledge of strategies for assessing learning and programs, building teams, guiding consultative programs, and evaluating environmental factors that impact teaching and learning.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance frameworks related to distance education courses.
  • Experience in a research focused university setting.

Additional Information

Please Note: This is a 5 year term limited position with the possibility of renewal depending on funding.

This is not a remote position and any adjustments to a standard in-person schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.

The salary for this position will be based on your education and experience.

Salary Information

The general salary range for this position is $80,000 - $87,000. You can expect to be paid a great compensation package. Factors used to determine salary include education level and experience for the position and internal equity within the unit. You are encouraged to discuss salary questions to honor understanding and transparency throughout the recruiting process.
