In this new role, you will manage all aspects of a geotechnical engineering program to ensure that project work is being safely completed on time and within scope and budget for a wide variety of clients within the Digital Infrastructure sector which is seeing significant growth and opportunity. You will also have the opportunity to work along-side our top consultants in this space, leveraging Terracon's competitive advantages such as Stage1, Pivvot and Compass to deliver an exceptional client experience while ensuring the project is completed per its contracted scope. This role is for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, and in a variety of subsurface conditions and geological settings, as projects are located nationwide. You will have opportunities to lead the coordination of work for multiple teams and serve as National Account Manager for a number of clients seeing revenue growth in the sector. Specifically, you will monitor project progress and performance against the project plan while you troubleshoot and recommend or resolve operational problems in order to minimize delays. You will coordinate with APRs and SMEs to make sure these individuals have opportunity to engage throughout the project, particularly at critical junctures, and you will be involved with approving invoices, preparing change orders, and collections. You will be responsible for resource management, project scheduling, budgets and forecasts, and working with external vendors, subcontractors or contractors. You will conduct meetings and prepare reports to communicate the status of the project to project team and client. You will set priorities, assign tasks, and coordinate project staff to meet project targets and milestones. You will have responsibilities to communicate with the client and deliver work products to satisfaction of the client.
Curiosity is key to this role. Asking good questions both to learn our client's approach to site selection, design and construction and to learn from the local experts in our offices where the projects are being executed. Technical aspects of this role may include performing and/or leading field investigations, engineering analysis, calculations, and recommendations, design and development of plans and specifications, observation and inspection, and the writing, preparation, and review of related reports for the services provided. Review drawings and collaborate with construction teams to assure compliance with plans and specifications. Prepare proposals and cost estimates, track and evaluate project progress, budgets, and recommend changes. Research and resolve design and construction problems. Assign, review, and evaluate laboratory or field data for inclusion in reports. Apply sound engineering principles and be able to communicate complex engineering issues and concepts to technical and non-technical clients and project teams.
Client manager aspects of this role may include developing a programmatic approach to the client's use of Terracon services as it relates to their projects' life cycle, achieving success for the client's project through Terracon's local office teams, and having overall responsibility for excellence in terms of client experience. Lead Annual Business Reviews (ABRs) and monthly programmatic sync calls with select clients. Work with clients to drive innovation, programmatic improvements, and streamline work processes. Develop Geotechnical Basis of Design (GBOD) documents or other standards with clients to help drive quality and consistency within select national accounts. Work with clients to resolve project and programmatic related issues. Clients typically work on very short schedules, so responsiveness outside of typical work hours will be required.
Clients in this sector are willing to pay for the value and experience you bring to their projects, and a chargeability goal of 40 to 50% will be expected.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
- Work is regularly performed under strict client NDAs, responsible for ensuring Terracon teams execute services while maintaining client confidentiality.
- Identify, develop, and gather key resources to lead the individual projects.
- Prepares forecasts for expenditures and manages scope, schedule to meet budget
- Partner with project managers to work with other departments or offices to secure specialized resources for the project.
- Directs the efforts of the largest projects and client pursuits including strategy and facilitation.
- Coordinates with the quality team to ensure appropriate oversight is in place and sufficient time allowed for quality reviews.
- Manage risk related to projects. Ensure contracts are signed and fully executed, and that appropriate work authorization is in place prior to commencing work. Monitor adherence to corporate risk policies and practices. Hold Managers accountable for mitigating or eliminating risk.
- Promote continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects. Ensure best practices are being followed and hold Managers accountable for quality control standards.
- Lead the development of new clients having a national footprint, and on-going management of client with goal of client becoming a national account.
- Bachelor's degree in technical discipline practiced by the Firm including Engineering or Geology. Minimum 15 years' related experience. Or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 19 years' related experience.
- Geotechnical APR, or on track to become a Geotechnical APR within 1 year.
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration, or ability to obtain within 1 year.
- Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.
- Project Management Professional (PMP)
- Master's degree in Engineering preferred.
- National Account Manager (Part-Time or Full-Time NAM) experience preferred.
This position is categorized as a "Remote Only" position. "Remote Only" employees do not have a designated workspace at an office, and typically work from home or another location.
The national standard salary range for this position is $103,500-$160,400. The base range may be adjusted based on the specific location of the applicant. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.
