Education and Upskilling Efforts for the frontline at Tyson Foods

Talent Development at Tyson Foods implements a variety of programs designed to help Tyson team members succeed in the workplace and in the community while also helping Tyson build a highly stable, qualified, and skilled workforce. A portion of the Talent Development team is solely focused on developing and delivering educational opportunities to Tyson’s frontline. The Frontline Development team focuses on two main programs:

  • Upward Academy Onsite: an onsite, instructor-led education benefit providing opportunities to grow personally and professionally at Tyson Foods through access to basic education, ESL, digital literacy, and life skills training at no-cost to team members.
  • Upward Academy Online: an online education catalogue powered by Guild, where team members get access to over 260 educational offerings ranging from ESL, High School Diploma, College Start, Certificates, Bootcamps, Associate’s degrees, Bachelor’s degrees, and Master’s degrees – all 100% tuition free.

Position Overview

Support the delivery of frontline educational programs to Tyson plants, work with diverse stakeholders in Tyson facilities and educational institutions to increase frontline team member participation in educational programs, serve as Upward Academy representative inside Tyson facilities, lead Tyson plant partners and adult education partners during recruitment events to inform frontline team members of their educational benefits and help them sign up. Excellent communication, problem-solving, organizational, and cultural adaptability skills are essential in order to effectively collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders in adult education, plant management, and hourly workers from diverse geographic and linguistic backgrounds. This individual must be action-oriented and excited to speak to new people about educational programs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Travel to Tyson facilities to lead in-person recruitment events for Tyson’s educational programs
  • Approach Tyson team members during recruitment events to introduce them to the educational programs available to them and help them sign up
  • Support recruitment event planning activities, which include attending and participating in calls to plan logistics, designing flyers to advertise the recruitment events, etc.
  • Serve as Tyson Upward Academy representative inside Tyson facilities during recruitment events, answer all questions from plant or educational partners or Tyson team members concerning Upward Academy programs, help partners troubleshoot issues with Upward Academy tablets onsite
  • Contribute in-person expertise and technical assistance to all partners to effectively support programs
  • Train adult education partners, interpreters, and/or plant partners to properly use Upward Academy attendance trackers and/or enrollment forms when signing team members up for educational programs
  • Report back to Upward Academy team on lessons learned, issues faced, successes, and pertinent feedback from partners or frontline team members during recruitment events

What we’re looking for

The ideal candidate has a passion to contribute creative solutions and ideas to a high-performing team with exceptional emotional intelligence and an ability to effectively self-reflect, communicate openly, and empathize with others. Skills and competencies include:

  • Must be available to travel nationally (car/air) 2-3 weeks a month to visit and support programs
  • Flexibility to meet changing demands of work schedule: including seasons of high intense activity and seasons of slower more relaxed efforts
  • Fluency in Spanish is required
  • Fluency in other languages is highly valued
  • Social comfort in new environments with large groups of people from diverse backgrounds
  • Excitement to talk to new people about educational benefits available to them
  • Cultural awareness and adaptability to connect meaningfully with people with minimal English-language skills and little to no formal education
  • Ability to perform in fast-paced environments with multiple responsibilities
  • Ability to lead a small team to achieve recruitment goals inside Tyson facilities
  • Flexibility to adjust to last-minute changes, with confidence and problem-solving abilities to decide on and implement last-minute changes when necessary
  • Knowledge of U.S. immigrant communities; experience working with diverse stakeholders in a multicultural setting
  • Ability to work collaboratively across a diverse organization and to move seamlessly from strategy to implementation and execution
  • Sense of humor and willingness to learn new skills
  • Excellent written, verbal communication, and documentation skills
  • Formal presentation and public speaking skills; professional demeanor
  • Strong critical and strategic thinking skills
  • Experience working within the social sector, adult education, workforce development, TESOL, immigrant integration, or related field.
  • Intermediate skills in using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint) and video conferencing tools

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $30.00 per hour

Expected hours: 5 – 50 per week
