Reporting to the Associate Director of Orientation Programs, the Orientation Programs Coordinator is responsible for fostering a commitment to student success by actively developing, implementing, and maintaining programs and services that enrich student learning, build and maintain a strong sense of community and support the social and personal development of incoming undergraduate students at the University of Oklahoma. The position supports the student staff development, administration, and programming for Orientation Programs and will help lead in the development of Camp Crimson-themed reunions for campers and student staff in the fall semester; as well as a spring orientation program for incoming students who begin in January. Specific duties include fostering relationships with student, staff, faculty, and community partners, supporting the planning and execution of student staff training, Camp Crimson, and Camp Crimson-related events.

Essential Duties:

  • Assists with planning, development, and implementation of designated student programs and services. This includes programming within Camp Crimson, during the fall semester and at the start of the spring semester; student leader development, and any other related initiatives developed. Supports the development of educational, cultural, social/community, and recreational programs in a manner which is collaborative and consultative with other units within the Division of Student Affairs, campus, and local community. Focuses on student learning centered educational initiatives and content to promote community service, diversity and inclusion, leadership, and well-being. Through programs, meetings, and activities on- and off-campus, develops relationships and community with and among participants.
  • Assists with program delivery of all programs within New Student Programs. NSP is comprised of multiple programs in addition to those overseen by this role, including Camp Crimson, Start Sooner, and Transfer Programs. Assist in setting up, staffing, and tearing down events designed and implemented by other NSP staff members.
  • Assesses the needs of students and helps to develop and implement targeted programs and services. Help execute an assessment for each key stakeholder group of Orientation Programs, including participants, student staff, campus and community partners. Modify and improve programs based on assessment results. Assesses goals and student
    satisfaction. Generates reports detailing community efforts toward university and division strategic initiatives and assessment of student learning outcomes and student experience.
  • Serves as liaison with offices on and off campus. Build relationships and collaborate with on and off campus stakeholders to develop programming content for Orientation Programs.
  • Counsel's students, facilitates support groups and advises student organizations.
  • Maintains records, to include but not limited to student files, inventory, personnel, and other office files.
  • Assists with development and administration of office policies and procedures
  • Researches, collects, and analyzes data or information and preparing reports or responses to inquiries
  • Creates student newsletters, brochures, handbooks and other publications.
  • May coordinate or assist in the coordination of special projects or student related events.
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.

Job Location

Required Education: Bachelor's degree. 

Equivalency Substitution: Will accept 48 months of equivalent experience in lieu of a Bachelor's degree. 

Skills: 

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer skills, including proficiency in navigating and maintaining databases
  • Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information
  • Highly organized and ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines
  • Ability to communicate well and build quickly with students, faculty and staff

Advertised Physical Requirements: 

  • Sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to bend, lift, stoop and carry.
  • Ability to engage in repetitive motions.
  • Standard office environment.
  • Frequent exposure to pressure caused by deadlines and busy periods.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies. 

Departmental Preferences: 

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • At least 2 years paraprofessional experience or 1 year professional experience in a secondary or higher education setting. 
  • Experience with Orientation Programs (summer orientation, camps, welcome weeks, etc)
  • Experience planning and executing large campus events 
  • Experience hiring, training, supervising student staff 

Supervision: Approximately 20 student employees
