Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Program Coordinator I for the Rutgers Future Scholars (RFS) Program Camden. The position reports directly to the Camden Sr. Program Administrator with Program oversite by Director of Education Partnerships and program oversight of RFS Director at Rutgers University.
The Rutgers Future Scholars (RFS) Program is a 5-year pre-college program (K-12) for talented, low-income, first-generation college-bound youth from Rutgers University's five host cities: Camden, New Brunswick, Newark, Piscataway, and Rahway. The goal of the RFS Program is to increase the number of youth from under-resourced backgrounds who complete high school and attend college. Scholars who successfully complete the program, and receive admission into Rutgers University receive a full-tuition scholarship (after all federal and state grant aid) funded through a range of grants and donations.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Implements efforts and services related to mentoring, academic programming, and summer enrichment on the Camden Campus utilizing the RFS Framework: identity formation, self-empowerment, and civic engagement.
  • Develops mentoring curricula for high school program participants and serving as the point of contact for administrators at mentoring sites.
  • Creates pathways to enlist additional mentoring sites.
  • Builds and sustains community partnerships within Camden City to support RFS-related initiatives and recruitment efforts in collaboration with Senior Program Administrator and Director of Education Partnerships.
  • Maintains accurate program data, reporting and operations information.
  • Supervises and assists with the hiring of part time staff responsible for supporting programming for 250 middle and high school students yearly.
  • Provides overall program management, in collaboration with Sr. Program Manager and Program Coordinator ,including planning and development, assessment, reporting and some fundraising efforts for to the university-wide Rutgers Future Scholars Program.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree preferably in human/youth development, sociology, social work, public policy, science, math, or related technical fields or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of program coordination, organization, facilitation, report analysis, writing, and promotion/outreach.
  • Good communication skills and computer literacy.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Fluency in other languages other than English (Spanish) helpful.
  • Knowledge and experience working within the community of Camden.

Equipment Utilized
  • Familiarity with current software programs such as Microsoft Office Suite including, Word, Excel, Powerpoint.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Hours of availability will vary.
  • Must be willing to work in fast paced environment and diverse students, families and work colleagues.
  • Will require evenings and weekend hours.
