The Center for Social Sector Leadership (CSSL) is an independent center within Berkeley Haas. CSSL develops leaders who transform organizations and advance equity, justice, and sustainability. CSSL provides hands-on, experiential, and guided leadership opportunities by supporting career journeys, providing advice and connections to a web of social impact leaders and organizations, and by pushing the needle on new leadership thinking.

Responsibilities
This role is the first point of contact for the administrative needs of CSSL. The role provides event, accounting, and expense account support; editing, and project facilitation, web page and online calendar maintenance; and other duties as needed/assigned. This role is the first point of contact for the administrative needs of CSSL. The role provides excellent customer service to faculty members, students, staff, external partners, the campus community, and visitors. This includes accounting and expense account support, editing, project facilitation, web page, and online calendar maintenance. Relies on experience and judgement to plan and accomplish assigned tasks and apply full range of specialized skills and job knowledge.
Administrative and event planning support:

  • Serves as the first point of contact for faculty, students, external partners, and staff regarding operations, program execution, and academic support information. Provides materials preparation support for CSSL. Provides information, parking passes, and other assistance as needed to guest speakers, visitors, and students. Provides word processing, copywriting, editing, and proofreading support. Updates and maintains online calendars. Creates questionnaires, surveys, flyers, posters, door cards, and name tags. Provides event support including reserving meeting space, ordering catering, communicating with various Haas staff, students, faculty and speakers; creating communications and handling other logistics. Updates and maintains web pages and online calendars. Secure restaurant, transportation, and hotel and airline reservations as needed. Order office supplies and equipment/furniture as requested. Resolve simple hardware/software programs.
Finance and Purchasing Support:
  • Submit complete and organized information/required documentation to the campus business service unit to ensure timely and accurate processing of purchases, payments, and reimbursements. Monitor program funds including materials purchased and payroll expenses for research staff and work with grant administrators to monitor externally sourced expenditures. Act as liaison between CSSL and Berkeley Regional Services. Create purchase orders for independent contractors and vendors. Track paperwork submitted for purchasing, travel, and entertainment reimbursements. Manage purchase and payment requests with Haas business services and BRS. Reconcile purchases made on Blu Card and maintain compliance. Process student awards and scholarships. Monitor gifts from sponsors and invoice accordingly.
Program Support and Outreach:
  • Work closely with CSSL colleagues, faculty, and external partners to navigate policies and procedures to reach program goals, assist with hiring non-academic staff appointments, lead outreach activities to maximize attendance of CSSL courses, programs, and events, maintain a database of CSSL contacts. Distribute mailings to CSSL audiences of external partners, clients, students, and donors.

Engage in ongoing education to promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging by completing university-sponsored certifications and training sessions or by engaging in external seminars and resources.

Required Qualifications
  • Thorough knowledge of administrative procedures and processes, including word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, active listening, critical thinking, multi-tasking, organizational, and time management skills.

Education and Training
  • High school diploma or equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience and skill in managing a high volume of incoming email requests or inquiries.
Salary & Benefits
  • This is a 100% Career position with full benefits.
  • Hourly, non-exempt, and paid bi-weekly.
  • This position is governed by the terms and conditions in the agreement for the Clerical & Allied Services Unit (CX) between the University of California and Teamsters Local 2010. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is Step 1 - $28.44 to Step 10 - $34.88
