We are currently looking for a Production Supervisor – Maintenance to join our team in Chicago Heights, Illinois.
PURPOSE OF POSITION
Reporting directly to the Maintenance/Engineering Manager, the Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day direction, equipment repairs and motivation of the Maintenance Specialists/Technicians and Maintenance Planner with high emphasis on safety.
TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
SAFETY:
- Champions safety through direct instruction and monitoring of employees.
- Ensures that employees perform their tasks in a safe manner which is in compliance with applicable policies and regulations.
- Manage the environmental program, including waste reduction initiatives and proper control and disposal of waste.
- Quickly address and fix safety issues that need maintenance to repair.
- Assist in the development and promotion of the safety program.
QUALITY:
- Directly monitors each employee's work to ensure compliance with established work procedures.
- Oversees work to ensure compliance with applicable standards and manufacturer’s specifications.
- Takes corrective action to identify and problem solve repetitive breakdown reoccurrences.
- Maintain the plant's equipment and facilities, including the accurate diagnosis of problems and the timely and cost effective repair.
- Inspects operating machines and equipment for conformance with operational standards.
- Reviews production, quality control, and maintenance reports and statistics to plan and modify maintenance activities.
- Identifies continuous improvement initiatives for equipment reliability and employee development.
ON-TIME DELIVERY:
- Maximizes repairs by effectively planning and executing work.
- Identifies opportunities to reduce downtime by: improving processes, controlling labour and overtime, reducing waste and shop consumables.
- Plans and executes work to meet established delivery and completion commitments.
- Meets assigned production goals within allotted material and labor targets.
- Schedules repair, maintenance, and installation to ensure continuous production operations.
COST:
- Control operating budget to plan, including the investigation of cost-effective solutions to machine and facility repairs.
- Maximize productivity by effectively planning and executing work.
- Identify opportunities to reduce costs by: improving processes, controlling labour and overtime, reducing waste and shop consumables.
- Recommend, plan and implement any new capital improvements, including equipment and machinery.
- Responsible to eliminate all causes of failure and ensure full useful life in coordination with daily maintenance completed by operating personnel.
- Creates and manages the maintenance and stores budgets.
- Ensure time and materials are accurate.
- Supports and maintains Lean culture.
PEOPLE:
- Develops employees through coaching, mentoring and providing training opportunities.
- Consistently and fairly applies Company policies and rules.
- To liaise with the other departments in an effort to develop systems to make their group more effective and efficient and promote a high degree of morale and interplant cooperation.
- Work with all levels of employees (hourly to management) and all departments to discuss and resolve maintenance issues.
- Maintain good communication and cooperation between themselves, their group and other groups within the organization.
ENVIRONMENTAL:
- Adhere to Nortrak’s Environmental Procedures, Practices and Policies.
- Assign specific tasks and duties to ensure effective Environmental Management System (EMS).
- Promote continual improvement of EMS.

QUALITIFCATIONS:
EDUCATION:
- Post-Secondary education with diploma or degree in Engineering, industrial management, manufacturing, production operations or equivalent field of study.
FIELD OF EXPERIENCE:
- One to two years experience in supervisory role or similar level preferred.
- Hands on experience in maintaining, repair and installation of production equipment.
- Knowledge of electrical power supply, motors, PLC, air compressors, hydraulics is necessary.
- Demonstrate strong and effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience working effectively in a team environment.
- Prepare and process maintenance schedules.
- Possess strong interpersonal / communication skills with the ability to motivate others.
- Able to prioritize and execute multiple tasks in an efficient manner.
Physical Demands:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Occasional standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or climbing.
- Must be able to lift or handle up to 25 pounds at times.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Periodic travel will be required which includes walking, standing, sitting, flying and driving from short to long periods of time.
