About Your Role
The Production Manager oversees our Production assembly line, ensuring efficiency, quality, and safety standards are met. They are responsible for managing production schedules, coordinating workflow, supervising staff, and implementing improvements to enhance productivity and reduce costs. The role requires strong leadership skills, technical knowledge of automotive manufacturing processes, and the ability to manage resources effectively.This is a very challenging and chaotic position that requires being able to perform under heavy pressure and stress.Velocity is constantly changing and growing for the better and this requires being adaptive and having an open mind to making these changes on the fly. This position is not for weak minded people.
Duties and Responsibilities
Production Planning and Scheduling:
- Develop and maintain production schedules to meet customer demands and delivery deadlines.
- Coordinate with various departments to ensure the availability of resources, including materials, equipment, and manpower.
- Monitor production progress and adjust schedules as needed to optimize efficiency.
Quality Control:
- Implement and maintain quality control measures to ensure products meet specified standards.
- Conduct regular inspections of production processes and finished products to identify and address quality issues.
- Collaborate with quality assurance teams to implement corrective actions and prevent recurrence of defects.
Staff Management:
- Interview, train, and supervise production staff.
- Provide ongoing coaching and feedback to employees to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
- Manage employee schedules, workload assignments, and performance evaluations.
Process Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for process optimization and cost reduction within the production facility.
- Lead initiatives to implement lean manufacturing principles, streamline workflows, and improve efficiency.
- Collaborate with engineering and leadership teams to troubleshoot technical problems and implement solutions.
Health and Safety Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations and company policies.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and promote a safe working environment for all employees.
- Investigate accidents or incidents and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Budget Management:
- Develop and manage budgets for production-related expenses, including labor, materials, and equipment.
- Monitor spending and identify opportunities to reduce costs while maintaining quality standards.
- Prepare regular reports on production performance, including key metrics such as productivity, efficiency, and cost per unit.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Automotive enthusiast with knowledge in the automotive or manufacturing industry.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, including assembly, machining, and quality control.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
- Proficiency in production planning and scheduling software, as well as Microsoft Office Suite.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations, with experience implementing safety protocols in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
- Willingness to work flexible hours and travel as needed to support production operations.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to work.
- Background check and pre-employment drug screening required.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, management, or other related field preferred.
- Proven experience in automotive or aircraft manufacturing, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
Physical Demands (to include but not limited to)
- Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computer, office equipment, telephone, etc.
- Sit for long periods of time working at a desk, boardroom table, or at a computer.
- Walk long distances across shop floor to communicate and gather information as needed.
- Must be able to navigate through various departments of the organization’s physical premises.
- Ability to lift, carry, and place items up to 50 pounds without assistance.
- Occasional reaching overhead and below knees, including squatting, bending, stooping, kneeling, and twisting.
- Ability to work in hot or cold temperatures for long periods of time.
