Job Description
SUMMARY
The Production Artist I is an entry level to intermediate production position, the candidate is expected to possess competent abilities in digital assembly or color correction, not necessarily both skill sets. Responsibilities include assessing delivered information and implementation of direction received from Prepress Supervisor, designated Lead, Project Manager and/or mechanicals. All personnel are expected to sustain high quality file integrity with meticulous attention to detail.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by an individual assigned to this job. Other duties may be assigned.
- Proficient assembly or color correction skills, quality path creation and/or mask selection capabilities essential in our deadline-driven environment.
- Fulltime comprehension of production practices essential as direction is structurally provided via SOP’s, design mechanicals, written instruction and department Leads.
- Unconditional support and adherence of departmental procedures and requirements is mandatory.
- The ideal candidate will possess print experience, Offset preferred, Digital acceptable.
- Familiarity with the 4/c process is beneficial, to include, but not limited to: spot colors, varnish, foil, die cuts, deboss and/or embossing.
- Hands on, energetic and motivated self-starter with the ability to work additional hours as required.
- Achieve the highest possible quality of files produced within lithographic pre-production environment.
- Capable communication skills desired, demonstrate close attention to detail with organized practices.
- Responsible for interacting daily with Production Lead, Project Manager(s), and teammates.
- Support and adhere to internal Creative Departmental procedures and requirements to include but not limited to,
- assisting in other areas during production heavy cycles.
- Experience in the following software or systems: Adobe Creative Suite and MS Office.
INTERACTION
This position will interact closely with the Prepress Production Lead, other Production Artists’, Photo Editors’ and related staff members.
EDUCATION/YEARS EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- College Degree with an emphasis in Graphic Arts a plus, but not required.
- 3+ years of experience in Prepress or related area, publishing or relevant duties.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Basic understanding of Prepress and Print Industries standards, familiarity with the 4/c process, optimistically including, but not limited to: spot colors, varnish, foil, die cuts, deboss and/or embossing.
- Fundamental understanding of file standards for print production (bleed, trapping, color separation).
- The qualified applicant must possess basic computer skills, hopefully including primary knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
- Plus, limited experience in the following software: Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Useful oral and written communication skills, displays close attention to detail with organized practices.
- Ability to articulate clearly with internal partners.
- Demonstrated ability to read, comprehend written instructions and follow pre-established guidelines.
- Expressed willingness to learn, professional demeanor; team player orientation.
- Ability to perform duties under minimal supervision.
- Manage time effectively, prioritizing duties while meeting deadlines.
- Ability to maintain flexible work hours.
- Work hours are mostly consistent, but production requirements require flexibility.
- Knowledge of the following areas would be desirable: NHL, Football and Basketball, and/or historical knowledge of pop culture, including comics and film spanning a multitude of trends.
