Job Summary:
The Product Director will play a pivotal role in the future growth and transformation of SMI by managing projects and personnel assigned to support the expansion of SMI’s Payments Solution suite for government agencies. They will have an opportunity to participate in delivering a compelling best-in-class reimagined product experience leveraging technology and design. You will be responsible for supporting the vision, opportunities and goals set forth by Leadership.
The ideal candidate for this role should have experience in product management, a proven track record of launching successful products, strong leadership and communication skills, and a deep understanding of technology and the product development process. The candidate should also be familiar with Payment solutions for state and other government entities.
This location-agnostic role has core business hours in the eastern time zone. The role will report to the Head of Product.
Key Functions & Basic Duties:
- Defines the product vision, strategy and roadmap
- Gathers, manages and prioritizes market/customer requirements
- Acts as the customer advocate articulating the user’s and/or buyer’s needs
- Works closely with engineering, sales, marketing, operations, and support to ensure business case and customer satisfaction goals are met.
- The Product Manager will Lead cross departmental strategic product initiatives coordinating with key stakeholders in sales, marketing, design, development, and operations
- Has technical product knowledge or specific domain expertise in fintech, banking, or payments
- Defines what to solve in the market needs document, where you articulate the valuable market problem you’re solving along with priorities and justification for each part of the solution
- Runs beta and pilot programs during the qualify phase with almost final products samples. In Agile environments, regularly review completed work and checks with customers to ensure that it meets the customer expectations.
- Is a market expert. Market expertise includes understanding the reasons customers purchase products. This includes a deep understanding of the competition and how customers think of and buy your product. Product Managers need market research and competitive analysis skills to complete these tasks
- Acts as the product’s leader within the company
- Develops the business case for new products, improvements to existing products, and business ventures.
- Lead a broad team of digital professionals to meet deliverables and drive new initiatives.
- Recommends or contributes information in setting product pricing.
- Additional duties may be assigned.
Education and/ or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in technology, business or equivalent experience
- 3 + years experience in product management or operations with payment solutions
- Deep understanding of financial systems, payments, and financial technology domains
- Collaborative problem-solving and ideation in a highly ambiguous environment
- Excellent communication skills; written and verbal.
- Deep curiosity for how complex (financial) systems work, and ability to internalize and analyze this information quickly
- Experience delivering quality software that solves business and user needs
- Data-driven approach and excellent analytical skills
Language Skills:
Fluent in English.
Computer Skills:
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows/Office. Knowledge and familiarity with Jira and/or tools that are used for software development
