Process Engineer

Summary of Position

The Tooling Processor is responsible for translating tool design requirements into material cut lists, commercial component orders, raw stock orders and work orders for the purpose of converting "raw materials" into value-added components.

 

Essential Functions

  • Create material cut list for saw operations
  • Read and comprehend PO, SOW, customer documents, prints, etc.
  • Determine, coordinate, facilitate and communicate methods of manufacturing
  • Order raw material and commercial components
  • Create work orders for processes (Saw, Weld, Machine, etc.)
  • Analyze CAD data (CATIA, IGS, STP, DXF, etc.)
  • Create CAD data using CATIA (Bend Templates, Flat Patterns, NC Models, Burnout/Waterjet Files, etc.)
  • Design and Model Shop Aid Fixtures (Check fixtures, Fab Jigs, Machine aids, etc.)
  • Assist in design changes
  • Create / assist with build plans as required
  • Develop, implement and maintain processing standards
  • Work with assembly leads to develop a build plan and follow up throughout the manufacturing process to maintain efficiency and on time delivery of parts and components.
  • Any additional duties assigned by management.

 

Required Skills, Education & Experience

Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful job performance will be considered.  Typical qualifications would be:

 

  • Degree or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities in manufacturing aircraft tooling
  • 3-5 years of progressive responsibility in operations/manufacturing
  • Minimum 1 year experience with CAD/CATIA
  • Experience demonstrating problem solving abilities and resourcefulness
  • This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22.C.F.R. is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Highly proficient computer skills
  • CATIA/CAD experience and/or training preferable
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP Systems
  • Ability to interpret blueprints
  • Comprehensive understanding of standard build principles and practices
  • Knowledge of manufacturing practices including welding, machining, bonding and fastening
  • Familiar with manufacturing shop and shop environment and able to communicate and work with a direct work force at all levels
  • Basic understanding of GD&T
  • A demonstrated capability to think strategically and execute tactically.
  • Excellent planning / organizational skills
  • Self-starter and highly motivated
  • Advanced knowledge of materials
  • Continuous improvement skills

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

May be required to travel to other site locations during the workday and would primarily be local during the business day. However, some projects may require overnight stays as well as out-of-the-area travel paid for by the business.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Working conditions described here are representative of those that may be experienced by an employee daily while performing the functions of this job.

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary state for extended periods / 50% of the time at a computer workstation.
  • Must be able to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • May access and work in the manufacturing plant, and therefore must be able to wear personal protective gear (PPE) when required. Examples include safety shoes, eye protection, and hearing protection.
  • May be required to work overtime or weekends to meet department and business demands.
  • While performing the duties of this job, employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, caustic chemicals, vibration, and moderate noise level.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

  • Must be able to frequently walk and stand for short periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 35lbs, occasionally lift and move objects up to 50lbs. When objects more than 50lbs are required to be moved, the business asks its employees to use provided mobile handling devices such as conveyors, cranes, industrial vehicles, elevated lift tables, trolleys, and pallet jacks.
  • Must be able to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Must be able to see, talk, hear, touch, feel and reach with hands and arms.
