Hybrid: Position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time- but the general expectation is that the employee be on-site an average of three (3) days each week.

The Role

The Process Controls Engineer position will include the design, build, and troubleshooting of electrical control systems for machinery and equipment that manufacture best-in-class and tech-forward vehicles. In this role you will be applying your technical expertise in order to deliver exceptional vehicles that inspire customer loyalty.  You will help implement standards and procedures as you work along side with automation system suppliers to coordinate machine modification needs with engineering and maintenance.  Other typical duties include developing, debugging, and troubleshooting control logic programs or robot programs along with other related functions at either the supplier or plant site.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities)

  • New program implementation/execution (SOR prep, controls design, equipment build/run-off and buyoff)

  • Design, construction, integration, plant installation, successful launch and continuous improvement of equipment and tools required in plants for the production of high quality parts

  • Manage deliveries to program timing milestones working with multiple suppliers

  • Existing program/site support (troubleshooting, etc.)

  • Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with all customers/plants

  • Grow technical skills

  • Provide technical direction to suppliers

  • Design and troubleshooting of electrical controls systems

  • Travel as required


 

Additional Description

Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • 3+ years of experience as a Controls Engineer

  • Bachelor’s Degree with major in engineering or equivalent experience/training

  • Strong technical knowledge of electrical/control systems and the ability to apply these concepts within a manufacturing environment

  • Demonstrated basic understanding of mechanical concepts involving machine designs, process requirements involved in the manufacturing process

  • Experience in PLC and HMI programming, Ethernet and/or DeviceNet networks

  • Knowledge of servo motors, motion control and drives

  • Ability to design and trouble shoot electrical controls systems

  • Demonstrated Excellent level of analytical ability, communication and interpersonal skills required to build relationships with team members and customers to solve problems and resolve issues.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage challenging projects and assignments with high level of autonomy and accountability for results

  • Prior manufacturing controls and/or assignments with successful individual achievements

  • Ability to use computer, interpret blueprints, engineering drawings and learn new systems

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Demonstrated understanding of plant floor work

  • General knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics is a plus

  • Prior work experience as a Controls Engineer in the automotive field

  • Knowledge of GM’s common global controls architecture 

This position is not eligible for ISP, ITAP, DTAP or localization
