The Role
The Manufacturing Process Controls Engineer will be involved in the design, build, and troubleshooting of electrical control and/or robotic systems for machinery and equipment that manufacture best-in-class and tech-forward vehicles. As a Controls Engineer, you will be applying your technical expertise in order to deliver exceptional vehicles that inspire customer loyalty. You will help implement standards and procedures as you work along side with automation system suppliers to coordinate machine modification needs with engineering and maintenance.
What You Will Do (Responsibilities)
Analyze product, process, and technology to craft best methods to assemble vehicles, and protect the Manufacturing Process.
Support design, construction, integration for new projects and vehicle programs with a focus on safety, quality, and efficiency.
Ensure successful launch and support continuous improvement of equipment and tools required in plants to produce high-quality products.
Collaborate with suppliers and internal partners to manage program deliverables.
Provide technical direction to suppliers.
Design and troubleshoot electrical controls systems to existing programs at manufacturing sites.
Grow your technical skills.
Travel as required throughout Michigan, United States, and/or internationally.
Additional Description
Your Skills And Abilities (Required Qualifications)
3+ years of experience as a Controls Engineer
Bachelor’s Degree with major in engineering or equivalent experience/training
Strong technical knowledge of electrical/control systems and the ability to apply these concepts within a manufacturing environment
Demonstrated basic understanding of mechanical concepts involving machine designs, process requirements involved in the Manufacturing Process
Experience in Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Human Machine Interface (HMI) programming, Ethernet and/or DeviceNet networks
Knowledge of servo motors, motion control and drives
Experience in Fanuc robots setup and programming
Ability to design and trouble shoot electrical controls systems
Demonstrated ability to manage challenging projects and assignments with high level of autonomy and accountability for results
Prior manufacturing controls and/or assignments with successful individual achievements
Ability to use computer, interpret blueprints, engineering drawings and learn new systems.
What Can Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
Demonstrated understanding of plant floor work
General knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics is a plus
Prior work experience as a Controls Engineer in the automotive field
Knowledge of GM’s common global controls architecture
This position is not eligible for ISP, ITAP or localizations
