Job Description
The Principal Program Manager (PPM) - Vertical Transportation is a subject matter expert (SME) reporting to the Senior Principal Program Manager (SPPM) - Facilities Support. This position develops and implements strategic programs designed to maintain Whole Foods store Vertical Transportation (VT) systems operating continuously and flawlessly. VT systems include, but are not limited to elevators, escalators, moving walkways, dumbwaiters, service elevators and cartveyors. Programs include design standards for new construction, modernization support, emergency repairs, planned preventative maintenance, and jurisdictional compliance. This position will be based out of the WFM Northeast Area Operational Support Office located in Jersey City, NJ and applicants who are able to relocate will be considered. This position may require up to 40% travel or more dependent on project needs.
Responsibilities:
The role involves the development and implementation of effective Vertical Transportation (VT) programs in collaboration with the SPPM - Facilities Support and Senior Team Leaders of Facilities Maintenance Operations. This includes designing standards, providing modernization support, emergency repairs, planned preventative maintenance, and ensuring jurisdictional compliance. Additionally, the responsibility extends to conducting VT program training for day-to-day facilities Repair and Maintenance (R&M) field execution teams, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal requirements, and maintaining an understanding of relevant ASME or ANSI standards. The position demands swift action-based responses and timely communication during system downtimes, with a focus on root cause analyses for corrective actions. Long-term solutions and strategies for critical equipment and components, overseeing contractors, and ensuring safe operational and maintenance procedures are also part of the role. The creation and enforcement of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for maintenance suppliers, compliance programs, and support in cost reduction while enhancing Service Level Agreement (SLA) expectations are integral components. Active participation in 3rd party provider reviews, staying updated on VT technology, and ensuring support team performances align with best practices complete the responsibilities of the position.
Professional Knowledge:
The individual is a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Vertical Transportation, possessing a comprehensive understanding of buildings and operations. With technical hands-on field experience, the expertise extends to:
  • maintenance, installation, inspections, testing, and alterations of various Vertical Transportation (VT) equipment. This includes elevator cabs, doors, rails, cables, ropes, sheaves, governors, bumpers, safety systems, overloads, relays, door control, step treads, and associated elevator, escalator, and cartveyor equipment.

The SME demonstrates a profound knowledge of elevators, escalators, moving walks, dumbwaiters, service elevators, and cartveyors (PFlow and Vermaport) applications within a grocery store setting. Specific competencies encompass
  • elevator maintenance, analysis, modernizations, repairs, new installations, insurance reviews, safety specifications, elevator code, and compliance with Local, State, Federal AHJ's, EPA, OSHA, jurisdictional codes, and mandates.

The individual excels in organizing and managing multiple Program Development projects concurrently, offering consulting services as an SME to oversee various Service Trades. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, Access, web-based tools, and adaptable to learning custom applications, the SME also holds a strong understanding of Whole Foods Market brand integrity. Additionally, the proficiency extends to Verisae and Corrigo CMMS Work Order Systems, along with expertise in utilizing Procore for building plans and discipline documentation.
Interpersonal and Communication Skills:
  • Demonstrate servant leadership with a clear understanding, delivering exceptional response and follow-through, coupled with elevated executive-level verbal and written communication skills. Possesses tact in managing challenging situations and offers consultation on issues of moderate to significant complexity. Regularly engages with colleagues or customers up to the Executive Leadership Level, providing valuable process and policy advice to Team Members (TMs) and customers.

Teamwork & Collaboration:
  • Provides function-wide process advice and insight, offering guidance to less experienced Team Members (TMs), and fostering a culture of excellence and accountability in a collaborative team environment.
  • Consults and advises senior-level stakeholders, Executive Coordinators, and Executive Level Leaders, collaborating on functional and operational processes, challenges, and trends to enhance efficiency; serves as a trusted advisor in EQ Program perspective; contributes to cross-functional projects, providing senior-level support; builds and nurtures relationships with senior-level stakeholders and leaders.
  • Demonstrates advanced ability to develop and implement program processes aligned with business needs, incorporating input from stakeholders; exhibits advanced knowledge of grocery store equipment, fixtures, building systems, and infrastructures.
  • Collaborates with Vertical Transportation (VT) Suppliers to establish a mutually beneficial partnership, actively engaging in a continuous improvement environment, addressing challenges, identifying opportunities, and staying abreast of advances and trends.
  • Addresses escalated issues and concerns, working independently with guidance on the most complex situations; upholds a strong work ethic and maintains a high standard of service while exhibiting excellent planning, organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

Judgment and Problem Solving:
  • Develops complex solutions to business problems by conducting in-depth analyses, coordinating and negotiating with key decision makers and stakeholders. Uses experience, innovation, and judgment to make decisions based on partial information while considering enterprise-wide implications across all levels.

Organization & Industry Acumen:
  • Leads comprehensive task and project planning, encompassing cost, schedule, and resource requirements, incorporating data and information from customer, supplier, partner, and company perspectives. Collaborates with stakeholders to identify, evaluate, and resolve emerging and anticipated issues, leveraging customer, market, and industry understanding to drive cost-effective solutions. Able to oversee or advise on project management issues and assist in overcoming barriers.

Education, Experience, and Requirements
  • BA/BS degree and 10+ years VT field service-level technician experience OR equivalent education and relevant experience
  • Ability to physically perform general office requirements and those required on construction site with or without reasonable accommodations.

The wage range for this position is $98,278.63 - $132,676.15 Annual, commensurate with experience. Whole Foods Market offers "Whole Benefits".
