Primary Care Veterinary Technician

Summary:
Mount Laurel Animal Hospital supports a large fast-paced, multi-doctor Primary Care service comprised of a team of dedicated individuals working on the road as well as a clinical setting. The role of a Primary Care Veterinary Technician includes, but is not limited to, obtaining medical histories, maintaining the flow of appointments throughout the day, taking radiographs, performing venipuncture, client education, anesthesia and more. The Veterinary Technician must be able to work with cats, dogs and occasional exotic species.
Responsibilities and Skills:
- Assist doctors during physical exams
- Prepare vaccines
- Restrain for venipuncture, exams, and treatments
- Express anal glands and perform nail trims
- Set up and perform radiographs (clinical setting)
- Stock and clean workspaces
- Knowledge of common medications; filling medications
- Ability to administer subcutaneous fluids and injections
- Perform venipuncture for routine bloodwork
- Perform treatments on patients within the Primary Care practice
- Obtain patient history and enter into electronic medical records
- Practice fear-free initiatives
- Able to perform basic sedation (clinical setting)
- Basic knowledge of anesthesia
Skills/Qualifications:
- CVT, LVT, RVT license preferred or a minimum of 3 years’ experience in veterinary medicine as a Veterinary Technician
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent time management skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Up to date driver’s license (mobile setting)
Physical Requirements:
This job is physically active and requires frequent bending and standing for long periods of time. It requires routine lifting and restraining animals. Must be able to lift up to 40lbs. If working within our mobile service, being able to operate a motor vehicle is a requirement.
Position:
Full-Time
Flexible work schedule (ability to work some evenings, weekends and holidays).
