Job description

SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Chief Medical Officer, the Primary Care Pediatrician/Associate Program Director is responsible for providing comprehensive health care for patients as established by clinics protocols according to community standards. These services include health maintenance, acute episodic care, monitoring long term care of chronic illness and patient education. Refer patients to appropriate hospital and specialty services, as indicated while maintaining high customer service standards. As Associate Program Director will collaborate with the Cottage Childrens Medical Center Pediatric Residency Program Director, other Associate Program Directors and the Program Coordinator to help administer the Pediatric Residency Program. This position is an integral part of the Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH). This supports optimal patient outcomes and integrates care with all disciplines of Santa Barbara Neighborhood Clinics.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Pediatrician:

  • Provides primary (or specialty care as credentialed) to children on a schedule as well as walk-in basis. Monday through Friday and one Saturday per month, no inpatient responsibilities.
  • Meet or exceed clinical productivity benchmarks and other productivity indicators, and; actively participate in outcome and other quality-related initiatives aimed at improving patient outcomes, as identified by the Chief Medical Officer.
  • Assists in coordination of care for complex patients.
  • Completes accurate and legible records at the time of patients visits.
  • Protects and maintains in good condition, all medical equipment appliances, hand instruments, and is responsible for the security and proper use of such instruments and equipment.
  • Clinician is required to notify the Chief Medical Officer of change in status of licensure, DEA status, hospital privileges, Medicare or Medi-Cal participation or criminal convictions of crimes greater than traffic misdemeanors that would require reporting to the Medical Board of CA.
  • Clinician is expected to comply with all regulations regarding charting (including prescribing of medications), lab work, follow up procedures, and pharmacy utilization of all programs in which SBNC participates. In addition, Clinician is expected to attend all QI and staff meetings.
  • Supports the work of the Quality Committee.
  • Works to ensure quality care provision within the clinic,
  • Clinician is expected to chart in accordance with the program that is funding the patient, order appropriate labs, code the super bill as appropriate and be sure that all of the information has been returned to the front desk for entry into the Medical Information System. Also, Clinician will be expected to bill all visits with the correct CPT code and follow all administrative directives regarding forgiveness of payment.
  • This portion of the job could be 0.5 0.8 FTE depending on candidate preference and needs of the clinic at the time of hire.
  • Reviews and develops patient educational material.
  • Participates in SBNC Provider Meetings and in All Staff Meetings once per month.
  • Consults with Chief Medical Officer regarding management of individual clients and interpretation of policy and protocol.
  • Support SBNC's mission and philosophy. Follow clinic policies and procedures.

Associate Program Director:

  • Oversight and administration of the resident ambulatory education at SBNC including curriculum and resident evaluations.
  • Oversight and administration of Continuity Clinics as well as outpatient curriculum including curriculum development and development of the residencys ambulatory content and experience.
  • Other Graduate Medical Education (GME) roles will depend on candidate experience and interest, but may include participating in resident recruitment, assisting with Academic Half Day programming, participation in residency related committees, development of community partners, and participation in faculty development, QI and continuous improvement in structural and educational aspects of the program.
  • This portion of the job will be 0.2 FTE GME role.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education and Licensure:

  • Graduate from a U.S. accredited school of medicine or school of Pediatrics with a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Pediatrics Degree.
  • Completion of a residency in Pediatrics acceptable to the State of California for Licensure or Board Certification by the American Board of Family Practice, American Academy of Pediatrics, American Board of Medical Specialties, American Board of Physician Specialties or the American Osteopathic Association Bureau of Osteopathic Specialties is mandatory.
  • Valid California Medical License.
  • Valid DEA License.
  • ACLS Certification.

Experience:

  • Experience in a Qualified Health Center or similar practice serving diverse uninsured and underserved populations. (Preferred)
    • Experience in Resident Education. (Preferred)
  • Pediatric and Clinical: 3 years minimum. (Required)
  • Special Requirements: Maintains all credentials necessary for the lawful practice of medicine in the State of California.
  • Preferred qualifications:Ability to speak some Spanish or willing to learn it.

Demonstrates ability to work both independently and in a team environment with other faculty and clinic staff.

Physical demands: Works in close physical proximity with others, both patients and assistants, constantly through the work shift. Works with a constant schedule of patients throughout the shift.

Uses hands to manipulate and control tools and equipment controls, with attention to accurate movements and measurements.

Quickly and repeatedly adjusts the controls of equipment to exact positions.

Keeps hand and arm steady while moving arm or holding arm and hand in one position.

Makes precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.

Sees details at close range, with or without magnification.
