Press Operator Iii

Summary:
Operates the Colorliner press in our Concord printing plant. Includes handling of newsprint rolls, preparing for operation, plating, running of the press, and cleaning and routine maintenance.
What you will do:

• Operating the press units, including plating, setting ink and rollers, webbing, and operating controls
• Newsprint roll handling, newsprint warehouse operations, and reel room operations
• Operate forklift/clamp truck in a safe, competent manner
• Press maintenance tasks
• Work in a safe manner using all appropriate safety equipment, including guards and safe buttons

What you will bring:

• Verbal and written communication skills
• Exhibit competency in press console operations
• Ability to read and understand mark ups for page location and color positions on all runs
• Competency in achieving ink and water balances, and density targets during press runs
• Specific vision abilities including close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
• Ability to properly plate and remove plates, remove and install blankets, and purge black and color ink rails
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
• Previous press experience required

Work Environment

• This job operates in a warehouse and printing plant environment; routinely uses pallet jacks and forklifts
• Must be able to work with chemicals, loud noise, dusty areas and moving parts safely and wear hearing protection the entire shift
• Requires the ability to lift up to 40 lbs. on a regular basis; heavy work may exert in excess of 100 pounds of force to move objects

The hourly wage is $28.00 - $32.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, MediaNews Group offers a comprehensive benefits package, and 401K plan (all benefits are based on eligibility).
