AAA, Inc (also known as AAA National Office) exists to support AAA clubs, inclusive of the association's purpose as well as to support the development and execution of the Association Strategic Plan. AAA, Inc. is committed to protecting and strengthening the relevance of the AAA brand, striving for long-term success and stability - not short-term advantage. Among the many roles of AAA, Inc. are oversight of the association's decision-making/governance structure, strategy development as well as the accreditation process.
The President and CEO provide leadership and strategic direction for the American Automobile Association (AAA) in support of stated policies, goals, and objectives established by the AAA Board of Directors. The CEO leads by influence and instills trust to build consensus among key stakeholders. They work closely with AAA Club CEOs (peers), Board members, and the Chair to ensure appropriate actions are taken to fulfill the mission of the Association and AAA, Inc. Serving as CEO of AAA, Inc., the national "center" of the association, this leader oversees all aspects of its operations. Additionally, they represent the association's collective interests with national business partners and represent AAA's international relations via the Global Mobility Alliance (GMA) and Federation de l 'Automobile (FIA).
Specific responsibilities include:
- Roles and Responsibilities: Ensures clarity and appropriateness of roles and responsibilities between clubs, the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, and AAA, Inc. Drives the achievement of corporate objectives as defined on an annual basis. Leads AAA, Inc. partnership with clubs to accomplish the Association's mission, vision, and strategic goals. Manages Association Committee process.
- Spokesperson: Serves as overall Association spokesperson regarding AAA's role and mission and represents the organization to allied organizations, international affiliates (including CAA), business partners, and the community.
- Strategic Planning: Collaborates with clubs to develop a shared future vision of the Association. Develops long-term strategies; establishes objectives and plans that meet the needs of AAA club affiliates, employees, and other stakeholders; oversees consistent and timely progress toward strategic objectives; obtains and allocates resources consistent with strategic objectives.
- Financial Results: Responsible for the overall direction and management of the organization, the long-term funding plan for AAA, Inc., and for achieving operational and financial results consistent with established goals and objectives. The annual 2024 budget is approximately $225 million.
- Culture: Leads the culture of AAA, Inc. as a professional services organization that delivers unique value and best-in-class service to the Association. Promotes and fosters a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion in accordance with AAA Basic Beliefs.
- Employee Experience: Creates a positive work environment for AAA, Inc. employees and promotes the organization's mission, values, and business strategies. Ensures the development of effective recruitment, training, retention, and talent development programs that enable and motivate employees to strive for continual improvement.
- Board Relations: Works closely with the Board of Directors and communicates critical aspects of the business and operations of AAA. Facilitates the Board's governance and committee structure. Implements Board policies and recommends policies for Board consideration.
- Leadership: Leads AAA, Inc. and sets a philosophy that is well understood, widely supported, consistently applied, and effectively implemented. Leads by influence, rather than explicit authority, to encourage collaboration and successful outcomes by AAA clubs. Fosters highly effective CEO-level relationships with AAA/CAA clubs, AAA-affiliated entities, and business partners.
- Direct Reports: Provides direct oversight, leadership, and 1:1 mentoring to nine executives at AAA, Inc. Provides indirect leadership to the senior leadership team. Overall, the AAA Inc. team consists of 475 professionals.
- Public Image: Guides the organization's role within the community to maintain a positive public image with the membership as well as the businesses, institutions, and other entities that support the work of the association, especially as it relates to safe mobility.
- Affiliate Relations: Works as a member of the team while leading and serving its members. As the leader of the national association, the CEO identifies and fosters synergy and inspires collaboration among AAA/clubs and international affiliates to achieve overall business objectives.
Professional Experience and Qualifications:
The successful candidate will be an inspirational and collaborative leader who achieves business objectives through persuasion, relationships, and credibility. They will have a minimum of ten (10) years of relevant experience in executive-level management, with a minimum of five (5) years of progressive leadership experience, demonstrating an ability to balance visionary work with the tactical day-to-day management of an organization.
Additional qualifications include the following:
- Ability to instill trust, lead by influence, and build consensus among key stakeholders.
- Broad knowledge of organizational management; thorough knowledge of federation or association environments and the operations of Boards of Directors and committee structures.
- Specific knowledge in one or more AAA business lines: Automotive (preferred) Travel, Financial Services, Insurance, Advocacy, Traffic Safety, Public and Government Affairs.
- Demonstrated knowledge in both B2B and B2C environments; experience in a data-driven, customer-centric organization preferred. A successful track record for establishing and growing strategic commercial partnerships.
- Forward thinking: Proven success in developing short and long-range plans and objectives, including budgeting, financial implications, and organizational development.
- Good understanding of contractual commitments, industry groups, key customers, and regulatory agencies as they relate to association business.
- Excellent relationship builder with an ability to effectively balance diverse stakeholder interests. Astute interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to facilitate alignment across the organization. Strong ability to collaborate and influence externally.
- A champion and advocate for an organization with the courage and empathy to address complex decisions.
- Experience building trusting, collaborative, and transparent working relationships with a Board of Directors to advance an organization's strategy.

Education:
- A bachelor's degree in business or a related field from an accredited college or university is required. A Master's degree is preferred.
