Description:

The Department of Biomedical & Pharmaceutical Sciences within Chapman University's School of Pharmacy (CUSP) seeks highly motivated applicants for a Postdoctoral Fellow.   
Chapman University has gained national recognition for its commitment to excellence through innovative research and teaching. Located on the Chapman University Rinker Health Science Campus in Irvine, California, CUSP offers a professional PharmD program and MS and PhD programs in Pharmaceutical Sciences. The Biomedical & Pharmaceutical Sciences department currently employs 21 full-time faculty with research interests in drug discovery and development, pharmacology, structural biology, immunology, drug delivery, and pharmacokinetics/ pharmacodynamics. Chapman University has made significant infrastructure investments to enhance biomedical and pharmaceutical research programs at the CUSP. Responsibilities

The Postdoctoral Fellow provides support to the Principal Investigator as accorded by the work agreement statement. The  Postdoctoral Fellow plans, designs, and conducts highly technical and complex research projects independently and in consultation with the supervisor.  This includes analysis of research data and providing interpretations, contributing to the  development of research documentation for publication and/or presentations as well as perparing technical reports, papers, graphs, and/or records.

Specific responsibilities include: 

Conduct research on the clinical development of novel anti-infective drugs with an emphasis on developing broad-spectrum antimicrobial, anti-fungal, and antiviral compounds, anticancer and drug delivery research.

Sign and execute research methodology to collect, analyze, evaluate and interpret data.

  • Lead research and development projects from conception to execution, providing expert guidance and strategic direction to team members.
  • Collaborate with other faculty with similar research interests on this topic.
  • Prepare technical reports, papers, graphs and/or records.
  • Apply rigorous statistical analysis to draw meaningful conclusions from research data.

Consult and assist Principal Investigator.

  • Work alongside the Principal Investigator to determine the method, details, and means of performing the services.
  • Furnish regular updates to the Principal Investigator.

Laboratory

  • Ensure the facility is well equipped with all necessary tools to conduct research.
  • Place request orders for equipment from Chapman University.
  • Use equipment and laboratory space accordingly to work contract.

Contribute to the development of research documentation for publication and/or presentation.

Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

Required

  • Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, biochemistry, or relevant field of research must be conferred prior to the start of employment
  • At least two years of teaching or research after getting a Ph.D. in scientific research, with a proven track record of leading successful research projects.
  • Extensive knowledge of the latest advancements and trends in drug development and the ability to apply this knowledge to practical challenges
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a deep understanding of statistical methods and experimental design.
  • Knowledge of research and experimental methods as issued by Institutional Research Boards.
  • Ability to operate laboratory equipment and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Ability to conduct research in a timely manner and document all data.
  • Strong writing skills and computational knowledge.
  • Ability to work alone and/or with student (or laboratory) assistants.
  • Ability to collaborate with Principal Investigator and other faculty before and during research.

Desired

  • Proficiency in organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry is highly desirable.
