The Bowman lab is seeking to recruit a Postdoctoral Fellow to work on problems at the interface of microscope development and neuroscience. We are a newly established lab at the Salk Institute developing imaging techniques to capture cellular signaling in vivo using fluorescence lifetime microscopy. We will be developing custom optical systems from the ground up to enable fast imaging of cellular signals in 2D and 3D environments. This work will combine microscope development with applications imaging the latest fluorescent biosensors. We will deploy our tools in collaborations across Salk for in vivo imaging of voltage activity and cellular signaling.
Experience/Education:
This work is highly interdisciplinary and as such candidates may come from many different fields such as engineering, neuroscience, physics, or biology. We are broadly seeking candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas: (1) Optical design and instrument development for microscopy (2) Application of functional fluorescence microscopy techniques, such as calcium or voltage imaging (3) Electrophysiology (4) Fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIM).
We are committed to working across disciplinary boundaries and to the mentorship and training that is required in order to make this happen. In doing so, we believe it is crucial to cultivate a lab environment that welcomes a diversity of viewpoints and where every individual is included, valued, and supported, both personally and in their career development. We firmly believe that we will all do better science by working together and embracing everyone's unique background.
The full postdoctoral salary range for wet lab opportunities is $70,000-$77,500 (see below). This range covers the entire postdoctoral training period; recent Ph.D. graduates should expect an offer at or close to $70,000 (minimum of the salary range). Salk Institute provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the institute reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
