Get to Know This Role
The Plant Utilities Technical Specialist is responsible for ensuring the integrity and efficacy of cleaning and sanitization programs throughout the brewery. Reporting to the Plant Utilities Supervisor, this role will monitor, report on, and drive continuous improvement of cleaning and sanitization processes for production systems. The Plant Utilities Technical Specialist will lead efforts to optimize Plant Utilities operations, including monitoring of water, carbon dioxide, and chemical delivery systems; wastewater treatment; and boiler and chiller water treatment. The Plant Utilities Technical Specialist will perform these functions with safety as a priority, in alignment with Sierra Nevada's stated Vision and Values, and in full compliance with applicable regulatory guidance.

What You Will Do
- Develops and administers assessment program for brewery cleaning and sanitization processes.
- Maintains and drives awareness of relevant regulatory guidance, technical advances, and industry best practices as site subject matter expert for COP/CIP/SIP processes and SOPs
- Produces high value documentation to demonstrate regulatory compliance, support quality management systems, and sustain brewery sanitation and food safety programs
- Reviews microbiology and process data for brewing, packaging, and CIP/SIP processes to identify and address quality, performance, and non-conformance issues
- Facilitates technical problem-solving and root cause analyses to support sanitation of the production environment
- Identifies and drives sustainable opportunities for water, chemical, and energy savings
- Supports regulatory audits by serving as a primary point of contact regarding CIP/SIP processes
- Maintains, calibrates, and troubleshoots related equipment and instrumentation
- Serves as an alternate for the Plant Utilities Supervisor in representing department operations and priorities for internal and external parties
- Performs Plant Utilities Technician duties to support vacation and training coverage
Please Apply if You Have
- Bachelor's Degree in a STEM field required. Biochemistry, chemistry, food science, or microbiology concentrations strongly preferred or
- Any combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved required and
- FSMA Preventative Controls Qualified Individual certification, or ability to complete certification within one year of hire preferred and
- Lean Six Sigma green belt or higher, or ability to complete certification within one year of hire preferred
- 5 years Relevant experience in a regulated beverage, food, or pharmaceutical production environment required
- Experience using process control systems (PCS) and/or supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems required and
- Previous experience training and coaching teammates in a manufacturing environment required and
- Experience with potable water treatment/distribution, carbon dioxide recovery/storage systems, and process instrumentation preferred and
- Thorough understanding of food/beverage industry practices for cleaning and sanitization required.
- Working knowledge of compliance programs required (cGMP, FSMA, HACCP/HARPC, SQF, etc.).
- Strong analytical and communication skills are essential to success in this role.
- Excellent collaboration skill with the ability to work respectfully and effectively within and across departments
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of process improvements and technical developments
- Self-motivated, with the ability to pursue objectives independently
- Flexibility and open to changing environment and evolving job responsibilities
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (i.e. Sharepoint, Teams, Word, Excel, and Outlook)
- Demonstrated safe handling, use, and disposal of hazardous materials
