The Plant Manager’s primary responsibility is the safe operation of the processing facility. This job requires hands on management of the facility and its equipment. The Plant Manager partners closely with third party operations to ensure on time processing and availability of product. Additionally, this role will be responsible for leading and improving the safety and food safety culture at the facility in conjunction with the third party. The Plant Manager is responsible for compliance with food and facility safety requirements, inventory management and control, quality assurance, maintenance, budgeting, and forecasting.
The Plant Manager will maintain the facility in a sanitary and suitable condition to meet company expectations. Additional responsibilities include safety compliance and all regulatory compliance and reporting, both internal and external, as well as managing and meeting the requirements of both internal and external audits and certifications.
- Partner with Regional Operations Manager to provide input on strategic plans to maintain facility in industry-competitive performance capability through preventive maintenance programs and capital improvement strategies.
- Develop and fulfill annual production and operating expense budget focused on providing Scoular with improving financial performance.
- Responsible for all aspects of inventory management, including product segregation, product conditioning, maintaining inventory quality, maximize mix and blend activities, controlling shrink, ensuring accurate weights and grades on inbound and outbound shipments, and achieving contract specification on all shipments.
- Oversee administration of processes of accurately weighing, sampling, grading, testing, and binning of all in-bound grain. Maintaining samples and identity preserved lot number system throughout the process (contractual or regulatory)
- Oversee administration of processes to ensure that facilities are clean and well-kept, inside and out, to reflect Company’s high standards.
- Accountable for providing impeccable service to our customers and proactively maintaining strong relationships to leverage market opportunities.
- Support transportation and logistics to ensure all transportation coordination needs for on-time deliveries are met. Ensure all rail and truck processes are in place to meet the locations shipping and delivery needs.
- Ensure completion of administrative functions which includes all necessary paperwork (Scoular and government required) are completed properly and submitted in a timely manner to meet all requirements necessary for each process
- Drive Employee Safety agenda and improvement, partnering closely with Scoular Environmental, Health, and Safety and third party operations.
- Manage the employees and the facility with exceptional standards for safety for employees, customers, vendors and business partners who may visit the facility.
- Ensure facility, products and equipment are safe, well maintained, of the appropriate quality and all certifications, permits and inspections are current and compliant. Responsible for facility safety programs and training.
- Manage all aspects of the physical assets, ensure that all government regulations are met and Scoular policies and procedures are adhered to.

About You
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
- Demonstrated experience managing or operating a grain elevator, cleaning plant, mill or ag commodity processing facility.
- Five years’ experience managing or operating a food processing facility, grain elevator, cleaning plant, mill or ag commodity processing facility.
- Effective communication skills.
- Detailed and process oriented. Demonstrated ability to set priorities and meet scheduled deadlines.
- Ability to analyze and independently solve problems.
- Effective customer service skills and a positive style in business transactions
- Ability to perform in a high-stress and fast paced environment
- Knowledge of accounting, financial practices and procedures
- Knowledge of the agricultural industry’s trading standards and procedures
- Ability to use commercial travel, as needed.
Preferred
- Four year college degree
- Understanding of grain markets, hedging and commodity flows
- Food grade grain or seed experience
- Grain grading experience
