Position Information
Assists in the design and development of planning projects through the analysis and application of social, economic and physical data and reports; and performs other related duties as required.
Current Vacancies:
There are currently three vacancies in the Department of Planning and Permitting in the following divisions:
- Two vacancies are in the Land Use Permits Division. Positions perform professional planning work relating to the processing, review and evaluation of applications for zoning changes, conditional use permits, plan review uses, and other permits; prepares correspondence and narrative reports to recommend action; conducts research, gathers data and analyzes land use, economic, social and environmental data related to assigned projects; responds to inquires and meets with applicants, agents, and other interested parties on assigned projects; and other related duties.
- One vacancy in the Planning Division, Policy Planning Branch and performs professional planning work relating to the processing of applications involving state land use boundary amendments, zone changes and public infrastructure map amendments and other related duties.
There are currently two vacancies in the Department of Transportation Services, Public Transit Division.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited college or university with major work in city planning, architecture, engineering, economics, sociology, public administration or a related field.
Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program, evidence of comparability, or an original transcript.

Work experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. Such experience must have provided the knowledge, skills, and analytical ability normally gained from attainment of a bachelor's degree.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Three years of professional (post-bachelor's degree, non-clerical) experience in architecture, engineering, or socio-economic research, including or supplemented by one year of professional (post-bachelor's degree, non-clerical) work experience in city planning or related planning activities.
Having the required number of years of experience will not in itself be accepted as qualifying for the position. Your overall experience must have been of such scope, level and responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position.
Substitution:
1) A Master's degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Geography, Economics, Sociology, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field from a regionally-accredited college or university may be substituted for two years of architecture, engineering, or socio-economic research experience.
2) A Master's degree in Urban and Regional Planning from a regionally-accredited college or university may be substituted for the required experience for the Planner IV (General City/Urban Planning) level.

LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
Possession of an appropriate valid driver's license, as required.
One of the current vacancies require a current valid driver's license (type 3/automobile), prior to appointment.
