The Opportunity
We are seeking a Full Time (40 Hour) Physician Assistant to join our Hospitalist team at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. The PA will support physicians, collaborate with consultants, nurses, case managers, rehab providers, and others to provide high-quality, efficient care for Hospitalist Service and Observation Unit patients.
Weekly schedules are flexible and will consist of day and evening rotating shifts. The shifts are currently 13 hours (7:00am-8:00pm or 10am-11pm), but shifts and schedule may change based on the needs of the service and to enhance job sustainability. We are located on the NWH Main Campus at 2014 Washington Street, Newton, 02462.

Duties & Responsibilities
The Hospitalist PA will be responsible for the following:
Caring for patients on the Observation Unit and the regular med/surg floors
Completing initial patient evaluations, inclusive of obtaining a history, completing medication reconciliation, performing an exam, reviewing diagnostic testing, and documenting an H&P as well as entry of admission orders
Monitoring patient progress and coordinating treatment plans with supervising attending, consultants, and providers in other disciplines
Documenting subsequent encounters through completion of progress notes
Performing procedures in accordance with clinical privileges
Discharging the patient from the hospital, including:
o Performing discharge medication reconciliation
o Coordinating discharge care plan, including follow-up with Primary Care Provider and/or subspecialist as needed to ensure safe care transitions
Providing education to patients, and family members, regarding their illness, medications, nutrition, diagnostic tests, procedures, care plan, and post-discharge care
Triaging patients from NWH ED as well from outside hospitals
Collaborating with nurses, hospitalists, and other providers to accept patients, as appropriate, from NWH ED, outside hospital EDs, and outpatient clinics
Communicating with accepting providers to ensure a smooth transition
Cross-covering non-house staff and observation unit patients during evening hours
Participating in Observation Unit, hospital medicine and hospital-wide process improvement, quality and safety projects
Assisting in quality assurance, quality and process improvement and patient safety initiatives within the Hospital
Qualifications
Master's Degree from a Physician Assistant program approved by the Commission of Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program (CAAHEP)
Current licensure as a Physician Assistant in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
Certification from the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
