About the job:
- Full-time position, no nights or weekends required.
- Under the supervision of the anesthesiologist, you'll have an exceptional opportunity to work as part of a clinical team - primarily evaluating, coordinating, and optimizing patients for elective surgeries.
- Function as a clinical leader in the unit, coordinating patient care, safety, satisfaction, and quality outcomes.
- Independently perform preoperative history and physical examinations on patients.
- Evaluate patients, review and coordinate appropriate testing, and arrange consultations as needed.
- Independently evaluate and assess adult patients scheduled for elective surgeries.
- Communicate and coordinate care directly with patients and between care teams.
- Order lab work, EKGs, X-rays, and medical or subspecialty consultations as appropriate to optimize preoperative preparation.
- Coordinate ongoing review of all screening lab work, EKGs, X-rays, and subspecialty consultations for patients undergoing procedures requiring anesthesia.
- Perform final check of all patient charts, including lab work, EKGs, X-rays, and consultation reports the day before planned surgery.
- Communicate and collaborate with acute care units to ensure patients are optimized and ready for surgery.
- May be exposed to all patient care elements within the hospital setting.
- Work collaboratively with anesthesia, nursing, and other medical and surgical specialties.
- Additional responsibilities include serving as a resource in all phases of perianesthesia care.
- Maintain a patient-centric mindset to provide safe, highest-quality service and patient care.
- Grow as a clinician by learning from new colleagues.
Requirements:
- Strong organizational skills, mature clinical judgment and the ability to independently evaluate and assess patients being considered for elective surgery
- Exceptional communication skills
- Graduate of an accredited and/or approved Nurse Practitioner program or Physician Assistant program
- Current license as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner, or Physician Assistant, in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, or ability to obtain licensure
- Must have or eligible for, and maintain, a current DEA registration and Massachusetts Controlled Substance Registration
- Current certification in ACLS and BLS required
- Requires a minimum of 2 years of experience in perianesthesia as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
