This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of specimens used for diagnostic testing. By following established protocols and maintaining strict safety and quality standards, the Phlebotomist and Specimen Collector contribute to the provision of accurate healthcare information, ultimately aiding in patient diagnosis and treatment. Strong communication skills and patient-centered care are fundamental to this role, as is a commitment to confidentiality and ethical practices.

  • Instruct patients on the collection process and provide necessary containers.
  • Collect saliva samples using swabs or other approved methods with attention to accuracy and patient comfort.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a phlebotomy training program or certification from an accredited institution.

  • Attention to detail and the ability to work accurately in a fast-paced environment.
  • Compassion and a patient-centric approach.

  • Phlebotomists must have sufficient upper body strength to perform venipuncture, especially for patients with difficult veins. They may need to apply slight pressure during the procedure.
  • The job can be physically demanding, requiring the ability to maintain focus and steady hands during repetitive tasks, sometimes for extended periods.
  • Good vision is critical for accurately identifying patient information and veins. Corrective lenses, if needed, should be worn to ensure precise work.
  • Adequate hearing is necessary to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues. It's essential for understanding patient concerns or requests.
  • Phlebotomists must have excellent manual dexterity to handle needles, vials, and other equipment safely and accurately.
  • The ability to differentiate colors is important when working with blood and Specimen containers, as they may be color-coded for identification.
