The University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center Downtown is seeking a Pharmacy Manager. University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center Downtown (located at 500 E. Market Street, Iowa City, IA) is a 194-bed hospital that became part of Iowa’s only comprehensive academic health system on Jan. 31, 2024. Under general supervision performs activities associated with pharmacy operations, including drug distribution and control. Provides functional supervision as required.
Job Responsibilities:
- Acts as Pharmacy Director in his\her absence.
- Capable of performing all duties of a staff pharmacist as needed.
- Collaborates with Information Systems department to optimize use of pharmacy automation.
- Collaborates with the clinical pharmacy specialist and the pharmaceutical care specialist in providing safe, effective drug therapy for all patients.
- Confers with physicians and nurses regarding specific drug therapy problem areas, such as dosage schedules, therapeutic incompatibilities, choice of alternate drugs, overdoses and underdoses for inpatients and outpatients.
- Participates in establishing and implementing departmental administrative and operating procedures and budgeting.
- Seeks opportunities for improvement, growth and change; maintains a strong emphasis on results.
- Supervises and participates in maintenance of records of pharmacy transactions as required by state and federal laws.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Percent of Time: 100%
Schedule: Monday - Friday Days
Pay Grade: 7A
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree.
- Current license or eligibility to be licensed as Pharmacist by Iowa Board of Pharmacy required by date of hire.
- Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY1/PGY2 Health-System Administration Residency or minimum of five (5) years of experience working in a complex clinical pharmacy environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability and willingness to act as preceptor.
- Job-related experience with and/or commitment to service excellence is required.
- Job-related experience with and/ or commitment to diversity in the work environment is required.
Desired Qualifications:
- Job-related experience in acute and ambulatory care pharmacy.
- A Master of Science in Pharmacy or healthcare/management related advanced degree such as an MHA, MPH or MBA is desirable.
- Experience with automation/technology, human resources management, project management and Epic electronic health record is highly desirable.
