POSITION SUMMARY
The Pet Care Specialist is responsible for all day-to day operations of the lodging facility, ensuring efficient operations and high quality Pet Care. This critical role includes: oversight of daily duties, oversight of facility operations, including maintenance, and ensuring effective communications with and among all lodging staff. The Pet Care Specialist is responsible for daily tasks such as arrivals, departures, inventories, feeding, enticements, and medications. Client communication and interaction (face to face, e-mail, phone) is also one of the main responsibilities of a Pet Care Specialist.

Essential Functions Statement(s)
- Adhere to pet handling procedures, dress code and other policies.
- Coach or train new Pet Care Specialist as needed.
- Report attendance to Pet Care Manager, tardiness issues and other performance issues; enforce progressive discipline policy.
- Encourage and support lodging staff through learning and mentoring opportunities.
- Communicate with clients as needed during stay and upon departure, maintaining the highest level of customer service at all times.
- Conduct daily walk-throughs to ensure all pets accounted for, enclosures are clean and all pets have fresh water.
- Monitor all pets for illness and/or injuries.
- Report any health, behavior, maintenance, or safety concerns to the Pet Care manager.
- Ensure any pets with stress-related or other health or behavioral concerns are being monitored and made as comfortable as possible.
- Record accurate information on the status, activities and behavior of each pet.
- Take appropriate action in the case of an emergency (pet or human).
- Follow the appropriate protocol for pets with behavioral issues such as approved personnel, snappy leash dogs, long lines, etc.
- Ensure that pets are being fed and medicated accurately and on schedule by preparing meals and medications accurately according to owner instructions.
- Accurately inventory all client possessions that arrive with a pet for use during their lodging stay and ensure that the proper items are sent home with the pet during departure.
- Efficiently schedule lodging staff daily duties throughout the day including the run, playtimes, cleaning and maintenance duties when needed to assist Shift Leader.
- Assist Pet Care Technicians and Pet Care Shift Leader with daily duties as needed.
- Attend required monthly All Staff and department meetings.

SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education: High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
Experience: Previous Pet Care experience (kennel, veterinary clinic, shelter).
Strong knowledge of Rover Oaks policies, procedures and operations, obtained through:
- Study and understanding of written material coupled with working supervisory and Pet Care technician functions until familiar
- Work experience as Pet Care technician preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Exceptional people and communication skills

- Able to multi-task and work well under pressure while maintaining composure
- Willing to learn as needed
Computer Skills: Familiar with computers (kennel software, Microsoft Office, e-mail)
