Position Overview:
The People Operations Manager at Kidspace Children’s Museum ensures a positive employee experience through both traditional human resources management but also with a focus on company culture and employee engagement. The People Operations Manager creates policies and practices that engage staff from recruitment to retention, focusing on a culture of learning and excellence to support the mission of the museum.
This position has one direct report (administrative coordinator). The People Operations Manager reports to the Chief Operations Officer.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources and talent management; apply this knowledge to identify strategies for improvement and effectively communicate recommendations for change in policy, practice, and resources to the leadership team
- Review processes from recruitment and onboarding to evaluation and retention and recommend areas for improved impact
- Develop a comprehensive training and professional development program for employees that fosters professional growth
- Support managers in areas such as employee evaluations, training, promotion, discipline, and other HR issues.
- Monitor and ensure the organization’s compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations; work with counsel and consultants as needed to review and modify policies and practices to maintain compliance and be responsive to evolving organizational needs
- Responsible for administration and employee communications regarding compensation and benefits, 401(k) enrollment, and education.
- Supervises administrative coordinator in onboarding, payroll, and other administrative functions
- Oversee payroll process, provide approval summaries, and request reporting to CEO/COO
- Manage workers’ compensation, state disability and unemployment claims, disputes and investigations
- Administer employment leaves, maintaining communication with staff and supervisor before leave and during leave to coordinate return to work and any accommodations
- Maintain employee records including job descriptions, employee files, and other documents
- Maintain professional affiliations/certifications and enhance personal and professional growth by staying up to date on trends in People Operations management
- Serve as part of the POSM (Proxy On-Site Manager) team
- Actively contribute to our culture of inclusivity, welcome, collaboration, and play
- All other duties as assigned
Minimum Job Requirements:
- 3+ years in the Human Resources Field, with HR management and non-profit experience preferred
- Experience working with union and non-union staff desired
- Demonstrated commitment to DEI principles
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy
- Experience with MS Office and payroll/HRIS programs
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related area or equivalent field desired
- HR certification (SHRM, college) strongly preferred

Benefits & Compensation:
- This is a full-time, exempt position.
- Hybrid (work at the museum at least 2 days per week)
- Salary range is $70,000 to $80,000 annually
