Job Responsibilities
With our Agency's mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.
  • This position is located at the Aiken-Barnwell Mental Health Center, 1135 Gregg Highway, Aiken, SC 29803.
  • This position will work seven days on, seven days off. Hours will be 5pm - 8am weekdays and 8 am to 8 am Saturday and Sunday. Employees will be at home during this on-call time and will only go out if called to accompany Mental Health Professionals on Mobile Crisis calls.
Job Purpose
  • Provide peer support services to individuals in the community after hours. Promotes recovery, goal setting, and community crisis stabilization in community settings. Provides follow up for individuals identified as high risk.
Job Functions
  • Provides trauma-informed, strengths-based non-clinical assessment services and interventions to include harm reduction, linkages to resources, and crisis planning to individuals and their families in crisis as part of the Mobile Crisis response team.
  • Provides follow-up contacts with individuals/families receiving Mobile Crisis services to ensure continuity of care, determine on-going needs, and provide supportive interventions as needed after hours.
  • Provides crisis preventative services through outreach and recovery support to individuals identified as high risk by the local mental health center.
  • Promotes community engagement with community supports for high-risk individuals to address psychosocial needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum and Additional Requirements
State Minimum Requirements:
  • A bachelor's degree in guidance, counseling, or the social sciences and professional experience in human services or social services programs.
Agency (Facility) Minimum Requirements:
  • Be a current or former consumer of mental health services.
Note:If any Agency/Internal Requirements are listed above, applicants must also meet those requirements to be considered for the position.
Preferred Qualifications
Agency (Facility) Preferences:
  • Must possess valid driver's license and be able to drive a state vehicle.
  • If not certified as a SC Peer Support Specialist, must attend mandatory training and complete certification requirements. Will be required to maintain SC Peer Support Certification.
  • Must have good computer skills.
  • Must have ability to work set schedule determined by the center.
  • Knowledge of recovery.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
