With our Agency's mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.

This position is located at the Department of Mental Health, Lexington County Community MHC
New AlternativesPeer Support Program, 215 Palmetto Park Boulevard, Lexington, SC 29072.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities for this Position Title include but are not limited to:
Under direct supervision from the New Alternatives Supervisor, provides services for assigned clients within New Alternatives Program. A Peer Support Specialist guides clients toward the identification and achievement of specific goals defined by the client and specified in the Plan of Care. Peer Support Services promotes community socialization, recovery, employment and development of mutual supports.
Candidate will plan, teach, and model activities through an empowerment approach that enhances self concepts and self determinations and shows how to better function in a community. Emphasis will be placed on the activities and necessities involved with daily living skills, medication monitoring and communication. Candidate will need to keep client notes written as required by the Medicaid and LCCMHC standard.
For MHP Student Loan Repayment:
This position MAY be eligible for SCDMH Student Loan Repayment to cover some of the cost of your outstanding loan(s) balance associated with the completion of a healthcare degree that is relevant to the appliable position.MINIMUM AND ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
State Minimum Requirements: Experience in a relevant program area. High School Diploma or GED equivalent and be a current or former consumer of mental health services, plus have one (1) year participation in local or national consumer movement or demonstrate recovery expertise.

Agency (Facility) Minimum Requirements: Employee must have completed and passed certification training approved and sponsored by SCDMH and continuing education programs required by the Office of Consumer Affairs.
Must have the Peer Support Certification in order to qualify for position.

Note: If any Agency Requirements are listed above, applicants must also meet those requirements to be considered for the position.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus. ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:
Must be able to lift 20 lbs.
