This position is located at the Department of Mental Health, Waccamaw Center for Mental Health, 164 Waccamaw Medical Park Drive, Conway, SC 29526.
In order to be considered for this position, applicant must be able to become a Certified Peer Support Specialist.
Peer Support Specialist will serve under the direct supervision of the Assistant Clinic Director. This staff person will provide therapeutic activities with individual patients or groups. They will be a self-identified consumer of mental health service in the Horry County Perr Support Program for Waccamaw Center for Mental Health. This position will also service as a referral in collaboration with local referral agencies to include USC Medical School and Conway Medical Center. This position will follow clients to make sure they stay stable in the community and keep their follow-up appointments. This staff person will serve as the Center's Patient Affairs Coordinator.
An evaluation of Peer Supports Services will be made at six-month intervals and annually by supervisor. Staff will also receive annual Employee Performance Management System review.
Provide Services to patients of Waccamaw Centerfor Mental Health who are identified as persons who would benefit from attending sessions with a Perr Support Specialist.
Offers clients hope of recovery from mental illness by sharing their own recovery stories and teaching client how to tell their recovery stories effectively. You will use your unique recovery experience to model the value of every individual's recovery experience and to teach effective coping techniques and self-help strategies. These meetings can be individual or in group settings.
You will maintain documentation of charts and other records in accordance with Federal, State, local, SCDMH, WCMH, Quality Assurance, Corporate Compliance and CARF Standards.
Complete and submit clinical service notes within a 24-hour period in accordance with Local Collaboration Documentation standards.
Provide a variety of coordination and consultation services with local community agencies and organizations, other human service providers and DMH staff to assist clients in maximizing recovery efforts.
Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor and clinic director.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
State Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree and be a current or former consumer of mental health services, plus have one year participation in local or national consumer movement or demonstratable recovery expertise. Must have one year in recovery experience as a trainer or presenter preferred. Applicants also be able to become a Certified Peer Support Specialist.
Employee will be required to complete and pass certification training approved and sponsored by SCMH and continuing education programs required by the office of Consumer Affairs, along with training required by local mental health center as a provider site.
Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
