Peer Recovery Support Specialist
Position Information: Provides intensive community mental health and medical prevention services to seriously mentally ill adults. All services are provided in homes, shelters, under bridges or anywhere our patients may be found 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. Types of services provided for this position may include providing individual rehabilitation skills (teaching, educating on all skills needed for quality of life), medication management and support, case management (linking, advocating for with any community agency or program), group rehabilitation skills, recovery services related to lived experiences and crisis intervention services.
Essential Duties:
- Provides fieldwork mental health services, face to face, to include but not limited to individual rehabilitation services -- teaching, educating, modeling, assessing, practicing, and directing a variety of life skills to help increase quality of life for patients. Most of this education is ongoing and progressive; recovery services including utilizing and teaching problem solving techniques, building skills to increase quality of life, facilitating groups all related to lived experiences; and assessment skills- provide initial assessments, participate in treatment planning, and continually provide ongoing monitoring of symptoms to include side effects, stabilization, etc.
- Provides crisis intervention services to population served including phone crisis prevention services and plans, face to face crisis prevention plans and assistance to more restrictive facilities when situations call for it.
- Provides Recovery Support services related to lived experiences as a consumer of mental health. Assists in identifying treatment services that are consistent to recovery. Provides interactions and treatment services that aid in self-directed recovery for consumers. Assists consumers in articulating goals for treatment and provides input into developing treatment/care plans with the treatment team.
- Bills and documents all services provided to patients.
- Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
Qualifications:
Required Education: High school diploma or GED, AND:
- 24 months of experience in mental health and substance abuse and recovery.
Working Conditions:
- Physical: Ability to engage in repetitive motion. Sit for extended periods of time. Frequent movement which may include walking, climbing stairs, and transport to and from appointments.
- Environmental: Community environment. Ability to travel from patient to patient providing services dependent upon patients that are scheduled. Occasional inclement weather with some office environment.
Certifications or Licenses:
- Ability to obtain Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist through the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services within 3 months
- Valid Driver's License

- Ability to explain technical data to patients, family members or caregivers.
