OVERVIEW: The Personal Care Aide (PCA) or Direct Aide is responsible to provide direct, hands-on care to Residents to ensure Residents attain and maintain the highest possible physical, mental and emotional well-being possible for each Resident without a decline in status unless the decline is documented unavoidable. Colonial Manor’s team members are committed to providing care that recognizes each Resident’s emotional, physical, and spiritual needs beyond the traditional Nursing Policies and Procedures. The PCA/ Direct Aide reports directly to the Director of Services.
JOB SUMMARY: The PCA/ Direct Aide provides care to Residents as established in Colonial Manor Policy and Procedure, current standards of care and practice, and applicable state and federal regulations. In addition, PCA/ Direct Aide must treat Residents and co-workers with dignity and respect.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The job required good physical and mental health. Physical activities may include lifting, rotating, and assisting Residents who are partially or totally dependent on moving about. Other physical requirements include stooping, bending, standing, and walking most of an eight (8) hours shift. The PCA/ Direct Aide must be willing and able to work a flexible shift including weekends and holidays.
QUALIFICATION/ EDUCATION: Must have completed an approved training program and passed competency examination including clinical skills and written knowledge in accordance with stationary requirements of PCA or Direct Care. Has strong knowledge of medical terminology, diseases, and procedures. Understands basic first aid and CPR and is capable of administering them if needed.
JOB KNOWLEDGE: Demonstrates a personal interest in the health and well-being of others. Is willing to place the needs of others first. Has the ability to work without supervision. Can maintain patient confidentiality. Possesses good time management skills Has good physical strength and stamina. They must be knowledgeable to medical terminology. Must be compassionate to the Residents. Able to identify Resident’s change of condition and report to Charge Nurse.
DUTIES:
· Understands and agrees to Colonial Manor’s mission and philosophy, to maintain, improve and/or enhance each Residents quality of care and quality of life.
· Must complete documentation before the end of each shift.
· Identify safety hazards and emergency and initiates corrective action immediately as identified Colonial Manor Policies and Procedure, current standards of care and practice and applicable state/federal regulations.
· Attends and participates in facility in-service training programs. Must complete 12-16 hours of continuing education hours per year as mandated by state regulations. Completes any assignment and evaluation in a timely and factual fashion.
· Assist in keeping Residents room clean and odor free.
· Provide supervision or assistance to Residents performing ADL’s which includes shaving, oral hygiene, bathing, washing hair, nail care, dressing, grooming and toileting.
· Assure Resident must dress properly according to the weather, activity, and season of the year.
· Must be able to attend shift reporting and do a walk through with the incoming staff.
· Ensure that the Residents is clean and dry throughout shift by performing hourly checks and 2-hour incontinence checks.
· Employees must be awake and available during his/her entire shift.
· Makes Residents bed daily.
· Escort Residents to/from Doctor’s appointment when needed.
· Making sure the Residents is in the lobby 15 minutes before pick-up when there is a scheduled Doctor’s appointment.
· Ensure Resident’s monthly weights are done by the 5th of each month.
· Assist Residents in getting to/from the dining room for meals.
· Remove all feces, urine and blood from Resident’s accidents and then ask the housekeeping to sanitize the area.
· Assist them on doing laundry depending on their category of care.
· Ensure that the Residents requiring 24-hour oxygen have a portable tank during meals/activities and on concentrators when in their room.

Pay: $24,960.00 - $31,200.00 per year
