Payroll Specialist

Job Description:

Atlanta Technical College (ATC) is seeking highly qualified applicants for their Payroll Specialist position. This position is located on Atlanta Tech's main campus, just South of Downtown Atlanta. 

The Payroll Specialist is responsible for the coordination/management of payroll operations and related transactions.

Job Duties:

• The Payroll Specialist is responsible for coordination and management of payroll operations and transactions.
• Maintain payroll records and provides information based on regulations and confidentiality requirements.
• Process and administer request involving employee pay, garnishments, bankruptcies, levies, and child support wage garnishments.
• Assists in the development and revision of payroll policies and procedures in accordance with GAAP
• Balances financial records at month-end; quarter-end; year-end
• Represents the financial interests of the technical college in accounting related interactions with banks, vendors, auditors, and external customers.
• Applies principles in analyzing accounting and fiscal data to ensure integrity of fiscal operations.
• Submits financial reports as requested in a timely manner.
• Advises employees or retirees on benefit programs, tax withholding options, payroll-related laws, payment deductions, deferred compensation, employee deduction program, etc.
• Analyzes/audits payroll for accuracy of preparation/posting 
• Computes or reconciles balances, and makes corrections
• Conducts research and compiles statistical reports, statements and/or summaries related to pay and benefits accounts
• Acts as a liaison between the payroll section and other government agencies, consultants, and other outside businesses in resolving problems
• Assists in the development and revision of payroll policies and procedures in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles
• Completes routine payroll-related forms, such as unemployment certifications, W-2's, W-4's or stop payment requests
• Provides on-the-job training for staff and/or technical college employees
• Supervises and plans work for assigned staff; and
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate Degree *and* Three (3) years of professional payroll or related accounting experience Note: Experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting or public administration and three (3) or more years of payroll related and accounting experience.
