Job Summary: The PSR is responsible for patient registration tasks, including collecting accurate demographic and insurance information, obtaining pre-certification or authorization, and entering data into the WFBMC ADT system. They inform patients of their estimated liabilities, collect patient payments, and identify those in need of financial assistance. Multi-tasking and problem-solving skills are essential, along with fostering positive patient relationships.
Education/Experience: High school diploma or GED required. Preferably experienced in patient access, insurance verification, billing, or certified medical assistant roles.
Reports To: Supervisor or Manager
Essential Functions:
- Greets patients and ensures efficient and courteous care.
- Ensures completeness and accuracy of patient information.
- Registers walk-in patients and updates demographic and insurance data.
- Verifies insurance benefits and collects patient payments.
- Follows Financial Clearance policy for non-urgent Patient Services.
- Identifies patients needing financial assistance and refers them to a Financial Counselor.
- Completes visit closure tasks, including scheduling follow-up appointments and collecting payments.
- Maintains knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and third-party payer requirements.
- Communicates customer service issues and process improvement ideas to management.
- Meets productivity requirements to ensure excellent service.
- Achieves or exceeds performance expectations for accuracy and productivity.
- Maintains positive relations with patients, families, and clinical staff.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Ability to identify and address issues logically.
- Knowledge of Medicare, HIPAA, and EMTALA rules.
- Strong mathematical, oral, and written communication skills.
- Understanding of human anatomy, medical terminology, and procedures.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and ADT software.
- Ability to handle sensitive information confidentially.
- Capable of working independently and problem-solving in a high-stress environment.
Work Environment: Normal office environment; primarily seated position; occasional lifting up to 10 lbs.
