Position Profile: Patient Care Specialist (Remote)

ON SITE TRAINING REQUIRED (SAN ANTONIO, TX)

Reports To: Revenue Office Manager

Supervisor Duties: None

Position Summary:

Responsible for verifying patient insurance coverage and entering referrals to ensure necessary procedures/treatment will be covered by patient insurance provider. Provide excellent phone customer service by communicating effectively and meeting patient needs. Must be able to handle and direct high-volume phone calls with a pleasant, polite, welcoming and cheerful attitude. Must have excellent verbal communication and verbal comprehension. Must have critical thinking skills to effectively cross reference multiple provider schedules.

This is a non-exempt hourly paid position and hourly compensation will depend on experience.

Work Schedule:Monday through Friday; Hours will vary from 7:30 am – 5:30 pm. Any overtime must be pre-approved by supervisor.

Education:Minimum high school or GED education.

Work Experience:

• One to two years related experience; medical practice preferred.
• Previous experience with insurance companies and extensive knowledge of various types of insurance coverage and policies.
• Proficient verbal and written communication with insurance providers, physicians, and other office staff members in a courteous and tactful manner.
• Knowledge of HIPAA and PHI regulations and requirements.
• Awareness of ICD-10 CPT codes.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Essential Position Functions:

• Ensure all patient benefits have been verified prior to appointment date.
• Complete appointment process for patients by collecting accurate patient demographics, verifying and/or updating patient benefit information and entering data in the EMR system with proficiency and accuracy.
• Obtain referrals and benefit info; Scan all referrals and detail notes in Alert Note Section.
• Ability to multi-task, set priorities, manage details in an organized and proficient manner.
• Skill in exercising a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion and decision-making to achieve organizational objectives.
• Exercising excellent judgment and discretion in developing, applying, interpreting and coordinating departmental policies and procedures.
• Professional and courteous interaction with patients, medical and administrative staff, insurance providers and referring provider’s staff.
• Answer high volume phone calls, make/confirm appts and reschedule appts if needed.
• Duties will require extensive amounts of time on the phone with insurance companies obtaining referrals on all HMO insurance references and handling high-volume inbound patient phone calls.
• Ability to use EMR system and other relevant computer software (i.e multi-screen and/or multi-window navigation, telephone, copier, fax machine and other standard medical office equipment.
• Any other duties assigned.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
